So I'm on this medication that can, occasionally, affect my short term memory. (I.e. things don't get committed to long term memory, so I may very briefly live like the guy from Memento. Without the murders. As far as I can remember, which is, as they say, the problem.) Anyway. One unfortunate side effect, that I stupidly just realized, is that sometimes I completely forget that I took the medication already. So I take it again, sure it was the first time I took it that day. Taking too much of it isn't dangerous (to a point), but it does increase the risk of losing short term memories. I don't think I've ever taken it a third time. I only just realized I probably just did this today because I can feel the increased dose. It's like being slightly buzzed, not really that unpleasant. I used to use one of those daily med dispenser things (like old people use, one box for M, W, T, etc.) but they are way too easy for my kids to get into, so I stopped. So the point is... I forget.

I'm the same with my BP tablets, sometimes forget. At work they stay in front of me under my monitor, at home they live on the mantlepiece. To try and not forget, its one of the first things I do in the morning. They have a MTW....printed on the blister pack which helps, and each strip is 14 days. This combination means I can use them for keeping track of how long I have of my trip to go, as I have managed to align the strip to a Thursday->Thursday 2 week period. They recently changed the brand due to stock issues, and the temporary stock didn't have printed blister strips. I was completely lost and never knew if I had or hadn't taken one for any particular day! Must have missed heaps over the course of a month. Back on the original supply now, so I know it is (checks....) Tuesday, and I have indeed taken today's dose.:)

Talk to your doctor about these side effects and try to get on some other medication, with doctor's consent of course. Is this medication an SSRI by chance?

The most frequent side effects of those are headaches and loss of libido.

True, but for some loss of short term memory is possible.

Maybe the problem isn't a loss of libido, they just forget that they haven't had sex.

No, I hate SSRI's, I can't deal with the... other side effects. (Libido is actually fine, it's, err, finishing that's difficult or impossible). So these are an attempt to find some combo that isn't SSRI based. CP Lounge: where TMI rules the day!

Yes, and oddly, this particular medication tickles the same receptors as Alcohol, to increase relaxation and general feeling of contentment, but without the loss of motor control or embarrassing sprints from a stranger's room at 3AM. The upside is that, because those receptors are filled, having one alcoholic drink is about the same as having two or three for me. Or maybe that's a downside, not sure. I don't usually drink.

I have been using the iOS 5 reminders app a lot... I should make that part of my routine. The loss of memory is really quite infrequent. Or maybe it isn't and there just isn't enough interesting stuff in my life that is worth remembering. :sigh:

No, I hate SSRI's, I can't deal with the... other side effects. (Libido is actually fine, it's, err, finishing that's difficult or impossible). So these are an attempt to find some combo that isn't SSRI based. CP Lounge: where TMI rules the day!

I only ask because I have High Cyclic BP . I was misdiagnosed for years and then I saw a new pdoc and I am doing just fine now, minus the voices in my head. I recommend you see a pdoc and no one else for anything mental health related...if you aren't already.

I forget.

Have you tried getting a pill tray[^]? You put each dose in a seperate box and then you have a visual clue of taking the medicine.

Oops. That'll be my medication - 3 parts gin and let the sun shine through a Martini bottle - making me miss things.
