Until xmas at least! I have just got on the scales and am horrified! No beer, no takeaways and only healthy home cooking until I am a lot lighter than I am. I am hoping to lose 3 stone. (42lbs or about 19kg).

Me, too! I love my Guinness, but when I drink too much of it I get the squirts and that just plain burns my arse! Besides, it's expensive at $12 a six pack. I'm off the beer now, at least for Winter, and sticking with scotch. A decently flavored blend that I favor, Clan MacGregor, costs only $15 for 1.75 liters, and that lasts a good two weeks. By comparison, a two week supply of Guinness costs $168, so it's a no-brainer. Of course. weight loss is nothing to me; I don't gain weight unless I work out in a gym or dojo. The most I've weighed in my life was 148 lbs, and it took me 7 years of karate training and 3 years of going to a gym for weight training to reach that level. All of my life before I was stuck at 125 lbs. But one thing I'd like to change is the distribution of mass. Since the surgery I had three years ago, which dropped me 32 lbs to 116, all the weight I've regained has been in the belly. I don't know a good way to move that new mass back up to the shoulders and arms where it used to live. But I'm still looking... :)

I doubt he's a light beer drinker; a pint of Guinness[^] has 210 calories, or 16 beers/pound (of weight, you can't even get a pint of the cheapest rotgut for 6 pence  ); so each pound he wants to shed is probably only a single night of getting stupid drunk.

I am off the beer for health reasons, but maybe once I've given my liver a break I'll get back on the Guinness. At 8 pints a night, I should achieve a healthy weight gain by Christmas.

I quit drinking in May. I lost 8 kg in about 3 months, and it bottomed off then. I'm hovering around 81 kg. Wanna get down to 76kg, but it might be a bit much to ask now. I'll settle for 78. But to that end, I have to start cycling psychotically again...

All the weight is just the beer he didn't find the time to pee out yet.

There is truth to this. Most of my weight is Beer Belly, and dropping the booze is going to be significant. Booze makes the liver swell, so coming off it should cause quite a large reduction.

Just remember that not all home cooking is healthy ;) I don't really drink or eat rubbish but I am still having trouble staying at the same weight and my food would count as healthy under any normal scale. I guess there is just too much of it :(

I lost 35 pounds and all I did was cut my food portions in half and reduced my carb intake. The process is quite simple. You can still eat what you like just don't eat a lot of it. good luck.
