usb to vga adapters

Has anybody used these? The idea being to add a third monitor to my laptop(1 being the onboard, 2 being connected with the external vga, 3 being the usb to vga) Do they work worth a hoot? or are they a fuzzy wanna be connection? And yes I have the power in the laptop to handle it if they actually work.
Let's face it, after Monday and Tuesday, even the calendar says WTF! Be careful which toes you step on today, they might be connected to the foot that kicks your butt tomorrow. You can't scare me, I have children.

No idea. But one thing to consider is if the bus can handle all that data (e.g., might only work with one monitor, and then for only a certain resolution or frame rate).

My dad uses USB to HDMI adapter on windows 7. They work. He had to install drivers, it's not plug and play. It must use some sort of video/audio compression though before sending data over USB, since there is no way USB can handle uncompressed video stream, but it does work.

A few people in the office use then, and I haven't heard any complaints, nor noticed any problems when I've been at their desks.

We've tried using them for some work projects and also found that they made video (machine position readouts in our case) very choppy. We quickly abandoned them.

I'm using one and it's good for using the browser, VS, Office apps and pretty much anything that does not involve high screen painting. It's bad for video and also that it sharply increases CPU usage when playing flash content or any multimedia app with graphics or video. I use it as my third monitor and it mainly is used for Office apps or for the browser windows. The resolutions supported are good enough for the 17 inch monitors I have at work. This is the one I have currently http://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Multiple-2048x1152-1920x1200-DisplayLink/dp/B0038P1TP4/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1321502742&sr=8-8.

yeah I was thinking of using one to put my email window on and browser pages with tutorials so that I can run vs on my main window and debuggers and whatnot on the second one. CPU usage I'm not to worried about I'm running an i7 processor. I have to load up pretty good to slow that thing down.

I use 2 WS-Tech USB-to-DVI units to drive a 22" Dell P2210 (DVI, 1050x1650, portrait) and a 17" Dell Dell E17S (VGA using DVI-2-VGA adapter, 1280x1024) in addition to another P2210 (1050x1650) on the DVI output of a Dell E-Dock and using the on board panel (1366x768) of a Latitude E6420. Running Windows 7 64-bit. Aero works. Video plays fine even in full screen. Drivers downloaded from displaylink.com as windows update can't find them. I had a problem when I started using them under XP that WPF applications caused problems (flickering etc), but haven't had any problems since moving to Win7. Bought them of eBay over a year ago (just search for UGA DVI VGA) and would recommend them to anyone. I've even thought of adding some more, but 4 screens freaks most people out quite enough! :)
