I am off to Belfast tomorrow to see my grandfather for what is going to be the last time. He is in a pretty bad way, the cancer has spread completely through his body now and he looks like a Belsen victim. To be honest, I am not looking forward to it, and purely for selfish reasons. It will be my last memory of him, and I would rather remember him as a big, upright, strong man, rather than a faded, dishevelled husk. But he is still my grandfather, and I want to let him know I love him before he dies. To this end, I shall not be here tomorrow, and would ask if someone could deputise for me in regard to the CCC?

Given the situation I doubt that anyone would worry about missing a CCC. Whatever you see when you get there, just remember he's still the same person that you know and love inside.

As Richard said, the same man is still inside. And don't forget that hearing is normally the last sense to go, so he'll hear you when you say goodbye. Good luck mate, it is hard saying goodbye but even harder if you don't get the chance. :rose:

Turn this around and your last memory is of a man meeting his end with dignity, surrounded by people who love him. What better memory could there be?

Thanks, that's a good spin on it. I would hate to think of him not seeing those he loves around him.

Yes it sad to see a beloved family member on their deathbed. But think of the alternative, it would be far worse if this person remained alive and had to keep on suffering the pain and other effects of a crippling disiease. Go see you grandfather, not feeling sad because you might loose him soon, but feeling happy that you were able to share so much joy with him during his life.

I'm extremely sorry for your situation, Dave. Just be strong and show him that he's loved, like you said you're going to do. :rose:
