is missing some letters. Don't use abbreviations or you will upset some on CodeProject, but I won't say who. :) I am still learning to put apostrophe's in the correct place, but I am not very good at it.

Hi ppl, I am relatively new to the community regarding posting articles, and just recently I have started writing articles about Delphi. My question is, what makes a "troll". In my article Inherit me this... Inherit me that....[^], I received a comment and a downgrade on said article because it appeared to be a "101" article, because apparently the concepts I bring out are "floating about". If so, based on that (I believe biased view), then what does CP actually stand for? Am I wrong in thinking that sometimes our articles are just that? Placements of words and ideas that people think are available "everywhere"? Should I continue writing articles despite the fact? [I know I will continue writing articles here], but that particular comment really disheartened me.) Am I going mad? Is that comment made by a person who (to me) is just a troll or is he/she/it voicing many other peoples opinions?

I suggest you look at the person's profile and check out their voting history. This one is only interested in trolling for articles that they can vote 1 on. Just ignore this ignorant fool.

                I wasn't, now I am, then I won't be anymore.

Everything is available on MSDN, so we can close the other sites. Let's shut down StackOverflow, CodeProject and all others. Ehr.. Yes, some people actually vote with that argumentation in mind. You could ask the question whether they have any brothers and sisters, as the same argumentation would apply :)

Speaking from very practice experience here, there is nothing you can do about such posts. The advice is to just ignore them. Believe me, I know its easier said than done. I've been in the same position before here. Giving a response such as you have will only add fuel to the fire and likely start a petty voting feud and/or a tit for tat argument. I've been there, on both sides. Although the comments may seem harsh, there may be some truth to them. If you read the comments objectively and feel you have done your best, then ignore them. Do you work with this person? Is this your boss? Your client? Will their comments get you demoted or fired? Then who cares. It's taken me awhile to come to this, I hope you can benefit from it. You could reply with a thank you, in the nicest possible, non-inflammatory, non-insulting way possible. Yes, sometimes this will insight more because the poster just wants to argue and make it seem they are better and have more knowledge, skills and expertise. Let them. In my experience here these people go away and only the quality people remain. For the record, I recommended the article be posted. Although there are plenty of basic OO articles, here and elsewhere, this was more targeted to Delphi and I felt it would be useful for a beginner. Good job.

As Marcus has pointed out the guy only ever votes on articles, 1 5 and lots of 1s. Has not contributed to the site and does not participate in discussion. Pretty close to a troll IMHO. As there are so few (I assume) articles on turbo pascal (is it still called that?) I think anything that is relevant will be appreciated. Don't let a dipstik put you off, we all get them.

Glen, I wouldn't "take to heart" that one comment. And, there's no reason to be concerned if you posted a "fundamentals" article; the great richness of CP is the rich variety of content aimed at folks at all levels of technical expertise, and experience, from newcomers struggling to get oriented, to world-class experts discussing the most complex aspects of higher-order coding problems, algorithms, and work-arounds for .Net's most intricate ... uhhh ... idiosyncrasies. This "richness" also taking form in solutions, tutorials, QA, Tips/Tricks, and specific topic forums. So you are not "going mad," but perhaps just getting over a small case of "getting mad." Keep on trucking. best, Bill

Scipio: "That's true, Berganza; and what makes the miracle greater is, that we not only speak, but hold intelligent discourse, as though we had souls capable of reason; whereas we are so far from having it, that the difference between brutes and man consists in this, that man is a rational animal, and the brute is irrational." Cervantes, "Colloquy of Dogs," 1613CE. The two talking dogs, Scipio, Berganza, are hallucinations in the mind of a soldier with plague fever undergoing a "sweating" cure.

is missing some letters. Don't use abbreviations or you will upset some on CodeProject, but I won't say who. :) I am still learning to put apostrophe's in the correct place, but I am not very good at it.
