He died at 1.15am this morning, peaceably and with loved ones beside him. The battle over, the cancer won eventually. I am sad, and yet somewhat relieved that his pain and suffering are at an end. I cannot help but smile when I think of him, he provided may episodes of mirth and hilarity throughout my life and now he is gone, but never to be forgotten by those he leaves behind. I shall miss him. Thanks for letting me go on about him, it is a kind of catharsis. PS. I will be in absentia on Thursday and Friday, so those who partake of the CCC will have to rely on the ministrations of my as yet unappointed deputy.

My heartfelt condolences to you and your family. AS you said, the sadness is hinged by relief that the ordeal is over. Not just for Grandfather, but for all those who love him and have had to endure the ending. :rose::rose:

That is what we're here for. I experienced the same with FIL.

Having grandchildren myself, I would bet that his life was enriched by knowing you, and from your comments, guess that you feel the same about him. It does not make the pain go away, but in the long run you have something that money could never buy.

I'm glad his suffering is over and hope you are OK. My grandather went on in a terrible condition for months with emphysema (a life time of rollie-uppies coupled to a 40-odd years welding ship together) before he died, stuggling for each breath. When he went I was simultaneously happy his suffering was over and sad he'd gone, also I rember feeling guilty for as was effectively happy he'd died and sad that his suffering had ended. Odd thing grief. Anyway I don't hold stock in a chap giving flowers to another chap, so  instead.

You are incredibly lucky to have had such a great man as your grandfather, and even luckier to have had your whole life to know him. Many people don't have that opportunity, so that's pretty awesome.

Just read about this as I do not regularly visit Lounge. Felt sorry about it. Apologies, if any mistake in my post as I am not very regular on Lounge. :rose:
