I feel kinda dumb asking this question, but I've not been able to figure it out: Sometimes when double clicking a folder in the right pane of Explorer, a new window will open; other times it will just open that folder in the same window. I would think this behavior would be set by using the Browse Folders option in the Folder Options dialog. But this doesn't seem to work consistently; something is overriding this option. Anyone else have this problem and fixed it?

I have the same problem and I think it's related to the registry key DesktopProcess under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer. If this is set to 1, new instances of explorer will run as seperate processes. There is also a similar option in Folder Options/View tab. HTH Jignesh
