Apologies if this is a re-post [^], but... ouch, that gotta hurt! Your wallet, that is... Apparently no one was seriously hurt, so that's good. By the way, I have received THE invoice for my wedding. My estimate wasn't too far off. Just over 30K GBP for the party, another 10K or so for the ceremony, rings and ceremony costumes. :-O

Almost, but not quite, entirely unlike... me...

Fme! Elope why don't ya? The total cost of my wedding was under £1,000 and included the service in a cathedral. I guess if you add in hotels and flights that the guests paid for it would add in another £5,000.

Eh? Sorry, why are you telling the entire world that you are spending an inordinate amount of money on a wedding? £40k on a wedding is daft. Telling the world you are spending £40k on a wedding is crass. Having said that, I hope you have a fantastic day.

Because I'm appalled and amused by this and thought that it would make a fun read for my fellow CPians! To be honest, it's my (and my other half's) choice how much we spend, and it's my choice whether to make a big deal out of it on a public forum. I'm not trying to brag. I'm partly poking fun at the society in which I live where this is more or less normal. (Rather on the expensive side, but not all that much.) I'm not used to all the formalities and procedures here, so it amuses me. But at the same time, it's the result of a pair of people putting a lot of effort into trying to prepare a special day for the most important people in their lives. To that end I'm proud of what we've come up with ;)

A former colleague of mine also had the big wedding. It was not just the pure wedding, but the fact that they wanted a big party to celebrate their now bonded life. go for it and have fun!

But at the end of the day you are measuring it in cost, not what you are getting out of it, or actually spending it on. The cost being the only thing really mentioned on this public forum, I would have to agree with the previous poster's sentiments.
