Hello Australians and New Zealanders, I've just recently heard that Australians and New Zealanders don't like Americans much. Is this true? -Sean ---- Whatever your troubles with mathematics, I assure you mine are greater. -- Albert Einstein

Yeah - damn Yanks. Over paid, over sexed, over here..... Seriously, what makes you think that ? One thing I like about the internet is that it doesn't matter *where* folks are, I often have no idea what part of the globe people I am chatting with are, and why should it matter ? On the other hand, I think it's a crying shame that Aussie 'culture' ( for want of a better word ) is virtually American now, but that's our fault, not theirs. ( Nothing wrong with American culture per se, I just feel that we've thrown away our individuality as a nation to a large degree ) Christian #include "std_disclaimer.h" People who love sausage and respect the law should never watch either one being made. << One thing I like about the internet is that it doesn't matter *where* >> << folks are, I often have no idea what part of the globe people I am chatting >> << with are, and why should it matter ? >> I agree with you. I think it's great that people from 6 continents can unite and share something that we all care about. That's part of what makes CodeProject great. The idea that Aussies don't like 'Yanks' was forwarded to be by the grandparents of an associate. They lived in Sydney for approximately 18 months doing volunteer work. A daughter of a friend just took a trip to New Zealand to visit some friends and she said the same thing about New Zealanders. Personally I couldn't believe it because EVERYONE love Americans ;) . Seriously though, I was just seeking clarification because it's always been my impression that despite various issues, Americans, Canadians, Australians, and the Brits have always shared a certain kind of camaraderie. I can't speak for every American, but I certainly think that Americans (in my area of the US anyway) have a fetish for anything Australian these days. Besides, I was on vacation in Hawaii several years ago and I came across several beautiful Aussie women sunbathing topless. I have a serious :) appreciation for Aussie women these days. That begs another question. Can any of you 'in the know' tell me the proper usage of the term Sheila? NOTE TO CHRIS: Maybe this should be a survey?? -Sean ---- Whatever your troubles with mathematics, I assure you mine are greater. -- Albert Einstein

Persaonlly, I have never used the term 'sheila' - I would say chick, as in 'this chick down at KFC was such a moron'. If I were a native of Antartica I would severly dislike (hate is such a terrible word, not even Americans deserve it) Americans solely because I will now spend the rest of my life paying monthly installments to Walmart for this damned fridge they sold me. Do you know how many whale bones and seal livers I have to collect for one installment of my " does 60-to-0 in three seconds" fridge? regards, Paul Watson Cape Town, South Africa e: paulmwatson@email.com w: vergen.org

Not to be a stereo-typical non-American but I think this post should be renamed to No Joy between !Insert Your Countries Name Here! and Americans. Living in South Africa (I start WAY too many paragraphs that way on CP) I can atest to a divided nation, not one divided by race or colour mind you but one divided between the "I wanna be a yank" crowd and the "Cor blimey, not those bleeding yanks again" crowd. Personally I think there are two reasons why there are so many anti-americanos around: 1. We are jealous: put simply America is a diamond in the rough of countries. 2. Arrogance: A lot of americans simply have no understanding of the rest of the world nor do they wish to learn about the rest of "us". America is their world. That is deeply saddening. Overall we love to hate americans, simple as that, much as we love to hate Brad Pitt or Leonardo de Crapio;P regards, Paul Watson Cape Town, South Africa e: paulmwatson@email.com w: vergen.org
