When I first read the clue, the phrase "shell shock" sent me in the direction of trying to find a military or war-related solution. It took me some time to recognise the correct way of interpreting the clue.

Well, of course, that was my intention! I like to misdirect, to confuse, to offer syntactical prestidigitation and grammatical legerdemain!

Are nouns allowed in the DD CCC? I thought they were not?
Too much of heaven can bring you underground Heaven can always turn around Too much of heaven, our life is all hell bound Heaven, the kill that makes no sound
Anything is allowed, so long as no animals are hurt in testing. I'm not so sure about that bit even. :-D
Panic, Chaos, Destruction. My work here is done. Drink. Get drunk. Fall over - P O'H OK, I will win to day or my name isn't Ethel Crudacre! - DD Ethel Crudacre I cannot live by bread alone. Bacon and ketchup are needed as well. - Trollslayer Have a bit more patience with newbies. Of course some of them act dumb - they're often *students*, for heaven's sake - Terry Pratchett

Nouns are allowed, such as Table, Chair, and Keyboard. I also allow verbs, adverbs, adjectives, etc. I think you are referring to Proper Nouns, and they too are allowed; this is not Scrabble. So long as the answer is well known, a proper noun is allowed. I have, in the past, had Downing Street, Grace Darling, Napoleon and Cassiopeia, amongst others. Also, remember rule 14(b), subsection iv - "The Setter's Decision Is Final". :)

One rule that binds them all - ah well.

Oh no I'm not complaining - I would not have not got the answer anyway. I could never have seen the link between the Irregulars and Sherlock Holmes - somehow just can't recall the term 'Baker Street Irregulars' from the book.
