"I write this to convey our deep disappointment over the documentary" "We understand the free press – they are welcome to explain and to challenge as long as it is fair and above the belt. Can this pass as acceptable journalism?" Surely no-one on the planet still thinks that Top Gear is anything other than an entertainment program? Now if they'd complained that it was a bit crap, then they may have had a point.

I think it technically is. The old Top Gear (with actucal reviews of cars and motoring topics) was and, and due to the way the BBC works, the current production is a continuation of that. If what they said in their trip to the US was true, they apply for permission to film under the basis of being a documentary. Another example of this BBC wierdness was "The Young Ones". Sitcom? Wrong. It was classed as a variety show to get funding. That is why they had the music bit in the middle, to justify that status.
Sort of a cross between Lawrence of Arabia and Dilbert.[^]

Sometimes I miss the non-PC days. Where you could say loudly and proudly, "If you don't like it... DON'T WATCH IT!" if enough people don't watch it, it gets pulled off the air. Times like these make me want to invent new insults to lump these people into. Can you imagine if Alice Cooper or Ozzy had to be politically correct in their music? It would have sucked. Just like the diplomat complaining.

I don't think they did mock India's problems, they mostly mock themselves / each other. Failing spectacularly when trying to improve on how things are done. The butt of the jokes is always the 3 idiots rather than the country they are in, which tends to get shown in a quite positive light.

They hadn't seen them, very few people had seen them, and even if they had seen them they took over a year to angry about them. It is a bit like the 300 complainants to the BBC over the nudity in Sherlock Holmes (of which there was none). These are professional agitators. I like Clarkson et al, they don't care and they just get on with their lives free from the PC bollocks that tries to say you have the right not to be offended. Rubbish, I have the freedom to disagree with everything and to be offended, and the RIGHT to respond to that offense. The programme was replete with cheap jibes, tasteless humour and lacked cultural sensitivity that we expect from the BBC.

Not that I have seen it, but the reports I have seen said a woman's naked back was shown. Now I do appreciate a shapely shoulder on a woman, especially one unencumbered by clothing, but I fail to see how the sight of one could offend anyone.

Opening episode of series 2 has Irene Adler enter a room naked. But by clever camera angles/posture you do not see anything that you wouldn't see by a pool or on a beach, there wasn't so much as a stray nipple. 300 Complaints! Puritans! I for one was hoping for a glimpse, she was a beautiful woman.

I know this, I used to watch the show before it started going downhill. The problem is elsewhere. I’ll try to give you an example. This is what I think: “Okay, who really cares. It wasn’t neither so offensive nor so far from the truth. Some entertainment program and their opinion. Oh, and production happens to be made in UK, this guys like to joke with everything. In a matter of fact in my country have far more really offensive shows, they just are not so popular so nobody gives a damn.” This is what many people in the “offended” countries will think: “Arrogant English bastards! Why they not stay on their small soaked island and fix their own problems!” See, it’s like a boomerang.

It's just a minority of Indians who are upset by this. Most of them haven't heard of the show previously but got all worked up when they heard that a UK TV show mocked India.

I thought the implied nudity in the Sherlock Holmes episode was a problem because the show was pre-9PM?
