A few CPians expressed an interest in seeing some of my photo's from our recent trip home to South Africa. Clickety[^] Unfortunately I was so busy enjoying my first real chance to test our new camera :-D (Digital Sony DSC F707) that many of the best shots I took using video instead of taking stills. This is really nice for us, but a little shortsighted when it comes to sharing with others over the web. I'm currently looking into software (free hopefully) that can extract stills from MPeg format video clips. This unfortunately also means there is only one infra red photo here, when in fact I have about 80 infra red video clips of lions and other interesting creatures at night :(( Also the 2 white water rafting photo's were taken with a disposable underwater camera, and are slighty overexposed. Any feedback greatly appreciated (especially on the software mentioned above), and thanks for being interested :) My excuse for posting this in the soapbox is the photo of a kudu in mid-birthing contraction. It might cause trauma for kid sisters :-O
I knew it would end badly when I first met Chris in a Canberra alleyway and he said 'try some-it won't hurt you'... -Christian Graus on Code Project outages His thoughts tumbled in his head, making and breaking alliances like underpants in a tumble dryer. It hurt the way your tongue hurts after you accidentally staple it to he wall**-Shaun Wilde**

Brendan was taking a clip of the sunshine over the Selati river, with morning birds singing, trying to get the bird sounds. His mother pipes up (more mother-in-law horror stories!) "is that to make the guys back in the UK envious of the sunshine?" benjymous wrote: Photos are really good - I love the Elephant in the shadows pic Thanks :-O

Actually, I'm becoming a big fan of recording video whenever possible - you talking about inapropriate voiceovers reminds me of this vid I recorded over new year's (when some American friends were visiting) I started just recording two people playing cards, but there's a wonderful background soundtrack discussing dentistry experiences http://www.grapefruitopia.com/stuff/dentistry_and_cards.avi[^] Probably worthy of a PG13 rating, at least. Oh yeah, I highly reccomend Virtualdub[^] for doing video manipulation stuff (the vids on my camera always come out way too dark, and in a compression format that nobody else can play, so I use that to gamma correct and reencode (and superimpose the logo) -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit!

I've often wondered why anyone would give someone kudus for a job well done. Why would you want one, and what would you feed it? Can they fetch your slippers? Loved the leopard shot... :) I've gone to find myself. If I should get back before I return, please keep me here.

Unfortunately they cried before and after videoing - but not during. In keeping with creatures of the wild, they are extremely otherwise when it comes to capturing on film. The challenge continues  Paul Watson wrote: Nice photos, you saw a good amount of game, so envious Thanks - we had a fantastic time. Have a video of lions mating, and another of a leopard running down a tree. I really must find some software to get stills out!

A sore spot for me at the moment - while in SA a friend had a baby by ceasarian, and did her best to tell me all about it and show me the video (unwatchable!!!! X| ). Another friend did the same about a year ago, only she had a natural childbirth  . If you know anyone offering to be a surrogate mother, please put me in touch :~
