To backup my hard-drive before messing around with partitions. The worst part is I have the cake but cannot eat it. Windows boots, but absolutely no windows are being launched. Not even Ctrl+Alt+Del and trying to start the task manager. Upon closer inspection, looks like the Users folder is chaffed and the profile isn't loading. When attaching the drive to other systems, the partition isn't even being acknowledged, neither do any partition recovery tools able to recover the partitions. What's worse? Safe mode also exhibits this problem. Not even cmd would launch when I boot into safe mode with command prompt. Windows repair also does not help :(, when I run any disk repair tools, it says that it's unable to repair this drive. I'm currently copying the files by booting that system and accessing the drive as a shared folder from another system, and I hope I can recover all that I need. I have none but myself to blame for this mess. I usually go through backups before attempting something like this, but I bought a new SSD and wanted to clone the HDD to the SSD. The nerd part in me took over and got too eager to try out the SSD. And unfortunately, this being my work laptop, I had to waste a whole day trying to set up the OS and tools in a new disk and try to recover the files. :(( The fun of having an SSD is totally out now. I just needed to vent out my grief. Thank you. That's all folks.

Is your graphics card a dual monitor card? I ask this because it is possible that you main screen has been reassigned to the other video port - I once had this happen, no windows showing on boot, so I restored to a backup and discovered, to my horror, that the cause of no windows displaying was that the main window was now attached to the other port...

No, it's a laptop. But after reading your post, I remembered that I usually connect 2 monitors and I used the Fn+Display key to try switching monitors. No avail. Thank You.

Well yeah, but I messed up something in the underlying partitions, so Windows isn't the culprit here. I'm actually terribly, and pleasantly surprised that it can boot, which atleast gives me the option to copy the files off a network share. This one is pure unadulterated PEBKAC error.
