I suspect the problem is largely one of intent. I doubt that a 19 year old football player sets out to turn a hot girl into a freak, and so the courts are unlikely to punish him, presuming that he will punish himself. So what ? I hope the $20,000 went straight to her, at least. I doubt it would cover her doctors bills. Times changed, and it became socially unacceptable to drink and drive, yet we have an entire generation still living for whom going home with a good buzz on is standard procedure. They won't be changing their ways, no matter how restrictive the laws become, because they all believe that nothing will ever happen to them, and no amount of logic will change that. The world you were raised in and theirs don't have much overlap - your world isn't real to them. I've been there, and I know how they think. I've been caught, long ago and thankfully before I did any damage. I did time in jail and paid hefty fines, and my rude awakening to the new reality had the desired effect - I don't drink and drive. But the vast majority will not be caught, and in time, they'll die off. The fact is that most drunk drivers never hurt anyone, but it's not socially acceptable to say that. The stats about it are also deliberately misleading - alcohol-involved doesn't really mean drunk. Those stats include cases where there was a six-pack behind the seat and no one drunk in the vehicle. They also include anyone who is not legally drunk or impaired in any way - maybe had a glass of wine at dinner and had the misfortune to get rammed by an idiot at an intersection. In more cases than not, the person identified as the drinker was not even at fault in the accident, but just happenned to be in the wrong place. Even a whisker (or whiskey... bad joke I know) above the level and you are automatically blamed as the perpetrator of the accident, does not matter what the other guy did (a guy got busted for being tipsy in his PARKED car when someone else lost control and plowed into him!) Still, rather too strict than too relaxed on an issue like this. As you said people think "I won't happen to me."

So that's a piss poor excuse, a cop out. I don't give a fuck if he planned it, he did it. He's a legally responsible adult who knew he shouldn't consum alcohol before getting behind the wheel of his car. And I'm not just on my horse cause it was an SUV, I don't care if it was a 1.2L 4 banger. Also while I remember something about the topic in the middle of my rant, the 7 years was for the 2 people he actually did kill. If he used a gun, a knife or his hands he would be up for the death penalty. He fucked up and should be face real consequences. How would you feel if this was Hanna? It probably comes down to my shitty childhood, my 13 months out of work, the shitty job I now have and more than likely mostly the fact cunt was released on 17-12-2002. It now harks back to 14-10-1998 when my little sister died and my life/head literally exploded . I have no one that understands, no one to talk too and I am the typical yobbo Aussie bloke that just sucks it all up until Boom. So in short didn't mean to bring the whole Hanna line into the arguement. I'm still hopelessly wrapped up in the whole life should be fair thing even though I am such a cynic/realist. New technique involves donor taking drugs to up white blood cell count and extraction via needle and not having to get your femur hole punched to get it. Turns out I'm a perfect match for my sister which is good for her as I was the only sibling and therefore the only likely donor anyway. So they fuck around for months doing fuck knows what calling me in to keep checking I understand what's going on. 'Like yes you dumb cunt, I do, let's just get oin with it'. Eventually long weekend October 1998 I get the needles. Cause I'm a fairly big bloke I get to stab myself in the stomach twice a day for 4 days (OK so I got my wife to do it). Fifth day is rest day and then into get drained. About 5 hours I am there needle in each arm and machine in the middle sucking out all the white blood cells. Meanwhile my sister has had her immune system killed off by chemicals so it can be replaced by mine. Which the theory says won't be succeptible to the cancer. Problem is that they fucked about for too long. The cancer had hit the stomach/intestines/liver (one of them) and she is bleeding into her stomach cavity. I was there when she finally died via suffocation as her lungs

If it was my kids, I'd be fighting to see them while I had breath in my body. I suspect he's had a restraining order put on him, I've seen enough to make it seem likely. If I were you I would have taken legal action after what the doctors did to your sister. Nothing can change what happened, but you might be able to make it so doctors in future think twice about acting that way. For what it's worth, I think you're doing pretty well for someone who has gone through so much. I'm used to people saying that to me, but I'm not even in the race.
