Did I mention that, last week, I was dealt 4 aces with a deuce kicker? Paid $400, IIRC. My girl tapped a Royal Flush for 4000 a few minutes later, BTW... A pity she was only betting nickels at the time.

I'm buying a laptop, primarily so that I can keep up with my homework while travelling for work. Given that my idea of a rousing game is Solitaire, is there any reason that I should pay $300 extra for an i7, instead of an i5 processor? I'm trying to think of one, but I'm stuck.

You will be able to use it a little longer because i7 will become an old technology about half a year or so after i5 becomes one.

A year spent in artificial intelligence is enough to make one believe in God

I built myself a desktop recently - an I5 quad core and I am amazed at the speed of it. I decided not to pay the extra ~200 it would have cost me for the I7 processor as the benefits were not really that great looking at the specs(for the money). I'd say unless you can afford to burn $300 stick with the I5.

I think it is not a great value for money (and i5 is already a good choice).

Avoid ASUS. I have been looking for their support for the last 2 weeks, and I am still looking. They have absolutely the worst after sales service I have ever to deal with.

But their stuff is so cheap that you can simply throw it away and buy it anew, instead of trying to repair it.

The question is, how long do you plan to keep using it for only that purpose? If only for a few years, but you plan on using the laptop for much longer, go for the i7 to save upgrade headaches later.

Unfortunately, not their tablets. 600 euros for a tablet, arrived broken, after 2 weeks at repair, they still dont even know when they will get replacement part stock. They are making their problem mine, and we all know what happened to HTC last time someone pissed me off and wasted my time...

Yes, I am not that cruel :) It was to do with HTC failing to release source code (particularly the kernel) that is under GPL.

But their profits are down 26% :)

Since nobody has mentioned it, I'd only upgrade the CPU after getting an SSD. Especially on a laptop you'll get much more bang for the buck unless you are running specialized software.
