Wearing glasses at work
-
I don't mean prescription eyewear. After long days in front of the monitors I found my eyes really strained at the end of the day so I thought I'd try a pair of Gunnar[^] glasses. They do help. The screens are more clear and my eyes are not strained at the end of the day. They also make me look like Bono. The old, fat, poor and can't sing version. :-D Anyone else use similar products?
Failure is not an option; it's the default selection.

Keep your contrast levels low and your eyes can survive without glasses for decades. :-)
Shameel, may I ask your age?

I felt obliged to make your Bono description a little more accurate.
I wasn't, now I am, then I won't be anymore.

I have found that any pair of sunglasses work fine ... I am hypothesizing that the strain my be caused by the fluorescent lighting (which lcd monitors are back light with as well as offices lit with). Some weeks I were shades all day at work. Really helps. Makes me look cool too.

Hmm: bit dubious about those: I've been sat sitting in front of a screen for over 20 years without any ill effects, headaches, nausia or any other of the myriad ailments that appear to afflict people when suddenly confronted with a screen. :)

Easier to take a quick power nap with the shades on also. Though now I see a marketing opportunity. Bluetooth enabled glasses with HUD to display debugger, or other, windows. I'm filing the patent now. ;P

You really should take a break.

no, but I have a tendency to switch off as much lights as possible in the evening. it's enough that certain colleagues force me to sit in something between a slaughterhouse and the highway kind of light scene. The lights are so bright that I have sun lotion to protect myself.

The difference between you and the others; they switched the screen on.

Make sure it includes a Boss-o-meter that flashes a warning as the boss approaches your cube. You know, so we can minimize CP.
CP would be displayed in the HUD of course

I like the ZZZ glasses. They make you look like your eyes are open, but actually you are grabbing some dreamtime.

Both excellent responses (see henry's above). 5 for each. I should be a straight man... (here all week).

A little trick I started using about 6 years back and has made a big difference - is to go into the settings for windows then: On the white backgrounds select the "other" option and you should get to a slider which will allow you to set the white to be set to slight grey tone - doing this means is that you don't have to fiddle with the contrast on your monitor and you are only changing the pure white light which its what I found caused eye strain. (In windows 7 right click on the desktop then --> personalize/windows color/advanced appearance settings/ click on the white part of a windon/click the color 1 dropdown/click on "other" button)
