I'm going to hell for this one...

Slightly OT. Eldest is having her lessons for First Communion at the moment, we're bringing them up RC because of Mrs Wife, and there is some stuff they're being taught that I'm not sure I agree with.
Panic, Chaos, Destruction. My work here is done. Drink. Get drunk. Fall over - P O'H OK, I will win to day or my name isn't Ethel Crudacre! - DD Ethel Crudacre I cannot live by bread alone. Bacon and ketchup are needed as well. - Trollslayer Have a bit more patience with newbies. Of course some of them act dumb - they're often *students*, for heaven's sake - Terry Pratchett
I assume RC = Roman Catholic. What parts don't you agree with? I am a former RC, so I have disagreements too.

As a practising Christian I find lots of things I have difficulty with in the detail, and I think that is part of the challenge.

There is stuff in the Eucharist that I find hard to accept; such as Christ being physically present. I wonder if all Catholics truly believe this or just choose not to disagree. Confession through a priest is a big problem for me. I confess to God, it is His choice if I receive forgiveness for my sin; not some random person who, philosophically speaking, does not know me. Papal infallibility is also rather hard for me to take. Anything the Pope, any Pope, says [in the context of his ecumenical duties] is said with God's Will and so cannot be questioned. Qui custodiet ipsos custodes? That said, I have a good relationship with our priest and he is happy for me to share communion; as long as I accept the aforementioned opinion. Our children are happy in the Church School and when we move back to the UK, we will attend the local Catholic Church; with occasional visits to my Church.

Just curious - what happens if that priest is suffering a crisis of belief when you confess? Or when they give last rites?

AFAIK the theology is along the lines of they are a conduit between man and God, it is not an issue of if they really believe but that God has chosen them to hear for him; or some such. As I said before, I am not Catholic just Mrs Wife and the girls.

I was a Christian for many, many years. I am no longer a Christian. I have found a great deal of inner peace with my decision. I am spiritual but not by man's definition but by my own. I would never have guessed that you were a Christian. Learn something new, every day. :)

Makes me wonder then... Can one stand outside the church and confess? After all distance shouldn't matter right? If so then doing it at home should work just as well.
[DISCLAIMER I am only talking from personal opinion] The point of confession is not admitting your sins but to request God's forgiveness. Now the ecumenical question is if the act of confessing means you mist be forgiven. If a killer confesses should his sin be forgiven? One side says yes because Jesus died so that sin could be forgiven; so if you ask you get. I believe that just because they can be forgiven it doesn't mean they will. But then I'm not a priest so wtf do I know. :-D :-D

I admire your honesty. That alone makes you a better Christian than most, in my opinion.
