I wrote about how I could not get reward check sent to me either online or by phone[^] about two weeks ago (it used to take only a few seconds). I talked with citibank customer service twice and eventually they found out that I was lucky to be selected to try out their new technology, a "request reward" button on my credit card that allows me to use reward dollars at any store. The problem is, my credit card has no such button. They said they are going to send me a new card with the button. Well, the new card arrived and it is identical to my old card and it does not have anything that resembles a button! I called customer service again, got transferred to account manager, he could not figure out what the problem is, so he talked with technical expert while I waited. It seems there is no way he can help me to resolve the problem. At last he cancelled the "new feature" on my card and tried to issue a check to me, it did not work. He said he would have to seek help from others and work on it later ... What a screwed up banking system!

Are you sure you don't have an imaginary bank?

A credit card with a button? How is that supposed to work? Will it not be pressed all the time when you put that thing into your wallet? And how is the card supposed to do anything when you press that button? You need a little more than just a button and a dumb chip to connect to any kind of network and then use some service. This sounds strange. I would love to see a picture of that thing.

Ok, that looks more like you can preset the 'mode' of the card before you stick it into some slot. This way they don't have to change the UI (or hardware keyboards) on all kinds of devices you might put that card into. Still, the little LED light tells me that the card receives its power 'over the air' and then no doubt also can be read even when you have not inserted it into any slot. I don't like leaving such a trail of information when I happen to walk past any readers.

It's CitiBank. Of course it's screwed up. Every month, they send me an email when the bill comes due. Int he email is a link to the account login page. But all I ever get to is a page saying don't fall for phishing exploits. So I have to go into the browser and try to find the login page on my own.
