The .223/5.56 is stocked on store shelves (Wal-mart, hardware stores, sporting goods stores, ad of course, gun stores), not to mention the thousands of people that have an AR-15 or other rifles chambered in that cartridge. They have ammo too, and will most likely have to leave a certain amount of it behind when they head for the hills. Easy to find = ubiquitous. A standard combat patrol load-out is 210 rounds of 5.56, and (nowadays) 48 rounds of 9mm. I have enough mags ready to go for 240 rounds of 5.56 and 49 rounds of .45 ACP, for each rifle and psitol I own. I can grab all of those magzines and be out the door in less time than it takes to say the sentence, "Damn, John, that's a crapload of ammo".

This is another example of an attack on the first amendment - the government lets it be known that they're "watching", and everybody clams up because they're afraid of being labeled as a dissenter or terrorist. This essentially is the same thing as eliminating their 1st amendment rights. I say, continue letting them have it with both barrels. If you're a gun owner, you have to fill out the 4473 form for the background check. They then contact the FBI who gives the go ahead for the purchase. By law, the FBI isn't supposed to maintain those records, but if you are under the mistaken impression that they're actually following the law, you're sadly mistaken. For the most part, they know where every legally purchased firearm is, and who owns them. They can also confiscate the completed forms from the FFL that initiated the background check - any time they please. My point is that not discussing it is pointless, and your only defense against them is constant vigilence. If the internet is suddenly unavailable to large groups of Americans, or GPS devices suddenly stop working on a national basis, or even cell phone connectivity goes tits up for a lot of people all at the same time, that's a pretty good sign that defication is about to come into direct contact with the rotating occilator. In other words, hide your weapons/ammo, or just leave your house altogether, because their first act (after disabling our ability to communicate) will be to disarm the public that they know owns guns.

I would highly doubt they know that they even exist. For example I have one old shotgun that belonged to my great grandfather. and its still one of the straightest shooting things I have ever held.. That being said, no they are not assault rifles or anything high powered such as the military would be packing, but, in my hands you do not want to be on the other end still :) And in this part of the country its all bush anyway so shorter LOS means shorter range weapons work just fine as long as you are woods smart. As far as the rest of your post, yeah you are correct sir.

I hear ya, but I do not believe there is a single source of this problem. In a way we are our own worst enemies. People love scary stuff. They eat it up. Then the corporate media feeds on this, as that is what sells. Then the politicians feed on it as that is what gets them elected. So in the end we eF ourselves over for wanting to watch scary stuff on the news. It was not necessarily the media's fault as they are fighting ratings against other broadcasters. It wasn't necessarily the politicians fault as they are fighting polls against their counterparts.
Computers have been intelligent for a long time now. It just so happens that the program writers are about as effective as a room full of monkeys trying to crank out a copy of Hamlet.

But it's just the opposite, he's allowed the trend to worsen, and it's now obvious (even to the most partisan) that it doesn't matter who is in power; the executive and legislative branches do not have any qualms about trampling rights. Donkeys or elephants, they're all the same in that regard. Stripping our freedom in the name of preserving it. Luckily, there is still some measure of checks and balances in this country. The courts actually do their job occasionally and strike down unconstitutional laws. So having said all that, we're still a far cry from a totalitarian state, and indeed a good deal better off than many of our European friends. What sickens me is all the attention SOPA got, while at the same time naming random citizens as enemy combatants (stripping them of all rights) goes ignored.

(I know that does not include you or I, btw) In fact, I agree with you. My point is more for the US to show what will happen if they don't do something to restrain the plainly obvious creeping socialism that is pervading the US. I'm glad it makes you feel better, but I really believe it won't come to that in our lifetimes. McCarthyism eventually got put in its place (as a historical embarrassment), and the country survived the domestic upheaval during Vietnam and everything else that happened in the 60's. I don't think we're anywhere near either of those situations at the moment. And maybe what you're worried about isn't comparable to that, but there are parallels.

Many times, this quest for power succeeds at the cost of indiviual freedom. Even if we were to "reboot" the country, the same thing would eventually happen all over again. People are great at pointing and laughing, but nobody has even thought to attempt to come up with a way to stop the problem once and for all, and that includes you. No form of government yet devised has resulted in the utopia we all want to see. So how would you approach it?

We mean well, and for a lot of us, the reality may be bullshit (and we know it, otherwise we wouldn't be complaining about it), but the desire is pure. I, for one, want the US to be what the framers envisioned. I don't know why you and others not from these parts don't want to recognize that.

I don't want it to come down to a shooting war - I've been shot at before, and it wasn't all that fun, but what kind of man would I be if I wasn't willing to stand up and fight for what I think is right? My family heritage can be traced all the way back to the Revolutionary War, and I absolutely refuse to discount their sacrifice by cowering behind others.

Probably one that is just clarifying existing policy. If someone thinks differently then I suggest that they try to break into a nuclear silo to protest this law or to jump the fence at the white house to do the same thing. Moreover it is probably redundant since significant national events are probably almost always already covered under use restrictions (perhaps even numerous ones.) I wonder if the author also has some pictures from inside Area 51?
