I would suggest that a history lesson is in order. Firstly, Britain didn't invent slavery, it has been around for 10,000 years. Arabs took black slaves from Africa, sold them into bondage and were aided into doing so by Black African Slavers. The Egyptians and Greeks and Romans all had slaves. And anyone who calls themselves a christian must admit that slavery is ok, after all, jesus never condemns it and in fact says that a one must not ill treat your slaves. I am very proud of Britain's role in the slave trade. We were, after all, the first country to abolish it, and then went to war several times to enforce that ban. It seems very churlish of a Jamaican to demand reparation now, or would she prefer to have been born in sub-saharan Africa? I think her inherent racism is blinding her to the truth, that Britain did good things.

Accepted, but using the Contextual argument,ie in the context of Slavery, Britain can stand proud on that front.

to be churlish Britian was not the first to abolish slavery, IIRC the dutch beat us to it, however they as they didnt enforce it it is a moot point. and as we were making a lot of money from the trade it does make it even more remarkable that they actual introduced something that cost the country so much. maybe we should repatriate all the former slaves from Jamaica back to africa and then see what the people left think about it? oh and how about all the slaves imported into jamamcia after the abolision? do they get any? and how do you decide who gets what?

You cant outrun the world, but there is no harm in getting a head start Real stupidity beats artificial intelligence every time.

True, but back then, any conquered people became slaves. It wasn't just about blacks.

True, but Arabs also had white slaves and blacks from Arab countries were treated equally and had their own slaves, black and white.

I've gotten myself into trouble for saying some of these things in America. I'm not a racist at all, I simply choose not to participate. You cannot, however, have an educated conversation about the history of slavery without getting tons of American's upset.

That is because so many people are ignorant and stupid and do not understand what the hell they are talking about, but merely foam at the mouth and regurgitate the bromides, lies and misunderstandings they have been force fed by religious and political leaders for their own power games.

It wasn't at first, but eventually became to be. Minus the sex slavery of course. But who could resist those white, milky ..., never mind. :-O

Considering they fought a civil war about it, this does not surprise me.

Did they? Nearly every serious article/programme I have seen about the Civil war seem to put the causes elseware and imply that slavery was a minor issue bewteen the sides.
