Walking down the path from my daughter's school to the car park. Some ray of sunshine in a Land Rover came driving down the path, stopped as people coming out of the school came along before driving a bit further. When I was half way down it's length it started driving again and the back end of the thing smashed into my elbow. Had x-rays, nothing broken, by bugger me it hurts, and getting some weirdness from the damage to the nerves. So just to recap for everyone, roads are for driving cars along, footpaths are for people to walk along.

Every man can tell how many goats or sheep he possesses, but not how many friends.

I trust you reported the driver to the police and plan on suing the pants off him/her.

You are truly a lucky man, then. It could have been so much worse for you or a child. I do hope your arm heals well. I had surgery on my elbow about 2 years ago and I still can't straighten the arm out completely.

That's what really annoys me about it. A few minutes after school starts and they are driving down the footpath into the rear entrance to the school to get to the front door of a community center that is between the car park and the school. All this so they can park right outside and unload stuff for whatever they are doing. This vehicle often does this, and there are always still kids about when it does. I have not reported it to the police yet, I did go round there after I had finished at the hospital but drive straight past and went to work instead. It kind of feels a bit petty when there is nothing really wrong with me. Yet the circumstances could have been much worse. Also the person who runs the community center had tried in the past to get parents banned from using the car park when dropping kids off, and I do not know if they can cause problems for the access to the school through that rear entrance which is used by lots of the parents and kids. Sent my missus a text that read "Got hit by a car. Been to hospital. Nothing broken. Gone to work. Live you xxx". She phoned up quite angry when she received it and had a go at me for not going to the police.

Do you have the names and addresses of witnesses? What about the details of the Land Rover driver? What they have done does break the dangerous driving laws, and the police need to be made aware of this. Plus, if complications occur later on and you try to claim for this, the insurance company are going to want a police incident number. Finally, the driver needs to have the bejeezus scared out of them so that they don't end up running over a child. They need to learn that there are consequences; but the longer you put it off, the less likely the police are to take you seriously on it.

Have a photo of the car on my phone. I only came in to work cos I have a meeting this afternoon to resolve something that has been holding quite a few things up. Was going to go report it after that.

It would help if you have the details of witnesses, as they are going to deny the incident. I sincerely hope you are OK though.

I doubt there is any lasting damage. As I said x-rays are clear, lot of heat coming off it now, as you'd expect from a bang. Got a mark on my shirt where it hit me too.

If you get hit by accident (in somewhere a car should be) and are fine, then sure, it's petty to report it in most cases. But if they're driving on a footpath with children around, I think you should. Chances are the person will deny ever being there with their car (since it's presumably illegal to be so even without running into you), but simply having the police asking them that question ought to scare them out of doing it.

I had always thought that footpaths were for serial killers to stalk their prey. At least, that's what I've seen on movies and teevee. I'd say you got off lucky.

Well. According to the hospital the best cure for elbows is gentle exercise. And I am supposed to be taking pain relievers, of which beer is an excellent example as you don't have to wait 4 hours between hits like you do with paracetamol for example.

I doubt there is any lasting damage. As I said x-rays are clear, lot of heat coming off it now, as you'd expect from a bang. Got a mark on my shirt where it hit me too.

I wouldn't be so sure. I had hairline fracture in my wrist that didn't show up on the xray until 2 weeks after. The doc explained because it was a hairline fracture it wouldn't be noticeable on xray until the bone starts to heal itself by forming new bone. Sure enough in two weeks when I went back for checkup we clearly saw the white hairline where I had the fracture. So definitely take it easy if it still hurts, and go back to the doc if it still hurts couple of days later. Good luck.
