Phone recommendations

Since my current phone is starting to act up I'm in the market for a new one. I recently learned that my internet provider now provides free wifi everywhere (well not free but you connect to wifi with my existing login so ...) so I was thinking to give the whole "smart" phone thingy a try. I always wanted to try the windows mobile 7 phones but have never had the chance to do so. I heard both good and bad things about andriod but I'd prefer to stay a way from it (I'm a windows developer so ...) And don't even think about saying iphone, don't know why but every time I try to use it (or the ipad) I end up throwing it against the wall after 5 min (well at least I get the desire to do so, so I just hand it back to the owner) As to brand of the phone, I always liked samsung but it doesn't have to be one. If anyone owns / owned a samsung omnia 7, I'd appreciate any comments, specifically how good it works with google mail and calendar.

I'm very happy with my LG Optimus 7 and the Windows Phone OS. It works perfectly fine with Gmail. You can even link multiple email accounts from multiple providers to have all emails shown in a unified Inbox. I'm not a user of google calendar but a quick search tells me the calendar app can sync with google calendar. The Omnia 7 is a great phone from what I've seen. Stylish and sturdy at the same time. It's very cheap nowdays and you will get the update to the most recent version of the OS. The 2nd gen windows phones are nice also. Somewhat better specs (some have front facing cameras), but the overall experience will be the same since you'll have the same OS version.

I've had an HD7 for over a year, and it's performed very admirably. Push Gmail works just fine, however I've never used the calendar. My upgrade is due in June and I'm strongly considered getting another WP7. If you're going to plump for a WP7 though, get one of the Nokias. Better build, better cameras, plus free satnav.

Seconded. I currently have the HTC Trophy with wp7. Love the OS, hate the device. The HTC had a very serious crash bug when playing music, but took a while to sort out. Their support is next to useless. I wished the Nokias were available when I got mine.
