Peter Bergman[^] has passed on. For those too young to remember, the Firesign Theatre was the most outrageous, most right on comedy group of the 1970s. Part scripted, part improved, their radio show was amazing in its impact, and reach into audiences that were, for the first time in history, learning that their government might not be entirely pristine in its values. Concurrent with the revelation that Richard Milhous Nixon was, indeed, a crook, came this small group of radio broadcasters who lampooned everything in sight, usually quite accurately. No show on TV, or any radio broadcast I know of can match what those members of the Firesign Theatre gave us in those dark times. I'm honored that I was among the few to have heard their works in the original format - FM radio.

    Will Rogers never met me.

The scripted part is the improved part. The word you are looking for here is improvised. Cheers! :-D

It's a shame they never regained their original popularity, but I sure loved their original material. A friend of mine and I pretty much memorized a couple of their albums and we could go on at great length at parties doing their dialog. It was very puzzling for some people who hadn't heard of them and they though my friend and I were totally insane. But the one who did know would just laugh their butts off as we went on and on and on. Time to dig out my old vinyl for a trip down memory lane. :rose:
