I am actually looking at the Barrett M98B 338 Lapua. But when I recently picked up my 12ga, the store had a Bushmaster 50 there for the same price. Here I need a permit for supressors and automatics. Getting a permit involves getting the county Sheriff's approval (which involves a few checks into your background) and paying your $200 lisence fee for each item. CCW is a seperate permit that isn't nearly as hard to get.

What state are you in? A few weeks back my brother had the chance to buy an AR-30 in 338 for under $1k, but didn't. I didn't have the cash either.

Then you'd be surprised at how often it's NOT the case. As I've already stated, Texas ain't the most gun-friendly state in the union...

Wisconsin. The info I have is from the the owner of a gunstore where I would get my firearms in a relaxed area of the state, so it might not be 100% accurate. I haven't purchased either of the afore mentioned items requiring a permit.

Congrats on winning the CC fight though. You ever go shooting at Bristol?

I haven't, but I used to live less than an hour away in Kenosha. We would go to a different range to shoot since some of my friends didn't have any of their own and it rented guns if you purchased their ammo.

It takes less that 10 minutes to break into your garden variety gun safe, too. Unless you've got a built-in concrete-encased carbon fiber and lead-lined vault with a two-ton blast door, you can't rely on it.

The folks there appear to be a very pro-gun group of folks - it seems like a good number of people brings guns to work (leaving them in their cars of course). The work looks real interesting, too. :)

I think Vermont is considered the most gun friendly state. Don't know if it changed since, but at one time a VT driver's license was all you needed to purchase a gun.

Your right, I am surprised. Michigan isn't as friendly either. You can carry with a permit, just don't shoot anybody.

Yeah - I'm glad that someone got their 2nd amendment rights restored, even if it wasn't me...

I think Vermont is considered the most gun friendly state. Don't know if it changed since, but at one time a VT driver's license was all you needed to purchase a gun.

Everyone has to fill out the background check form, but AZ is a constitutional carry state, meaning you don't need a license to carry openly OR concealed. If you can legally own a gun (pass the FBI background check), you can carry it - anytime.

I lived in California for 25 years. I'm fully aware of what it's like.

Did a quick google and found this site crime.about.com[^] for Vermont. No FBI NICS, only a state background check. Only requirement listed there is Record of sale. There is a disclaimer though: Caution: This summary is meant for general purposes only. Firearm laws frequently change.
