Apologies in advance if this is the wrong forum for this! I've had an 'offer' from the software informer site stating that they will plug my software in return for me putting a link to them on my website. Given that my website has very little traffic (my software gets about 5 downloads a day), there doesn't seem to me much incentive for them to do this. What's the catch?

According to the latest rating, they give a +1 in hinduistic karma (new Vedas scale), -22 in ludditism (but that's just what you always get for using those sparkly contraptions), and +2 in SILP (Software Informer Link Points). I've end-usered them a while back on some installation, makes it easier to stay up-to-date and I prefer their solution over every app installing a notification service. Didn't seem to increase my spam input notably. Not sure if they sold out to advertising in the meantime.

The only reciprocal links I put on my freeware pages are to NoNags, SoftPedia and CNET because they've been (hugely) instrumental in spreading the word (Google the names of my freeware offerings and you'll see what I mean).  IMHO, other shareware/freeware sites pale in comparison to these three. /ravi

Ravi, Thanks for the advice, I most likely won't take them up the offer. My software they want to promote is way out of date anyway, it's moved on three versions since then. Cheers.
