From here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iranian_calendars[^] "As is common on Persian new years the first day of the spring celebration the woman of the relationship is entitled to get the man an exotic car or gift of high degree." I suppose you can't believe everything in the Wiki.

HArdly see why it was downvoted, he just confirmed it was in the 14th Century. A religious dictatorship ruled by a small band who detest democracy and who wish to have an interminable war with its neighbours. That was France and England in the 14th Century. What's the difference?

Happy new year. Back home we send a tall, dark-haired man out just before midnight. Traditionally he brings in coal, salt and shortbread (represnting warmth weath and food). When midnight comes the man (called the first-footer) knocks on the door and is given drink (usually whisky). When I was younger we'd go round to eachother's houses and repeat the process and get quite sozzled.

Dave, we should be so lucky as to be in 13th. century Persia, where we might have met Rumi (Jalāl ad-Dīn Muḥammad Balkhī), and perhaps read his immortal words: Rumi, Divan number 1919 translated by Rafiq Abdullah And this is love - the vertigo of heaven Beyond the cage of words, Suddenly to be naked in the searchlight Of truth, no shade no lead for the senses. You are a victim. Love's felony pillages your breath Knocks away your feet, makes you blind with insight. So that you may clearly see for yourself. Congratulate your heart while you can, for it has Clambered into the inner chamber of circling lovers: Now it sees with uncluttered eye and rashly Enters the rough neighborhood of loving breasts. What is the origin of your energy, O heart ? Where is the drastic home of your pulse ? Birds may sing their busy language I shall hear them with a lover's newfound ear ! The heart complains : "I was in travail As the body was burnt. I fled the workshop Even as it was being made. When I was exhausted Beaten down. I was dragged through madness beyond Description, torn apart beyond the good sense of sounds"

Pillock? I am not the one developing nuclear weapons and threatening to take Israel off the map, nor am I the one denying democracy to my fellow man, nor am I the one imposing religious law on people of whatever faith or none. I am not ruining my country with policies that lead to sanctions and nor am I treating half the population as second class citizens. I am not the one that refuses scientific and reasoned debate over the teachings of a dark age peasant who liked screwing 9 year old girls.

HArdly see why it was downvoted, he just confirmed it was in the 14th Century. A religious dictatorship ruled by a small band who detest democracy and who wish to have an interminable war with its neighbours. That was France and England in the 14th Century. What's the difference?

I believe it is headed by an elected President.

It is actually the opposite of what you claim. Iran is not threatning its neighbours. One of its neighbour is very determined to pull Iran into the war.
