Having looked at both 2007 and 2010 I know which I prefer; and it makes me feel quite :-D .

So I bought a new ultrabook, got the Asus as I liked the config, and wanted to get Outlook on it. Went to the Office 2010 web site and get driven nuts by the smarmy American accent (I know MS are an American company but some of us find the accent supremely irritating) trying to tell me about the benefits of Office. What a crock of shit. I only want Outlook, word and excel are useful I suppose and I'm reluctant to use a web based system as it offend my foil hat. I suppose if I use gmail I can integrate the android phone :sigh: So what is everyone using for their Email and word/excel equivalents.

I use Outlook, and you can buy it separately. But you can often get the whole suite cheaper and just install what you want to use...

I use gmail - and I find it even beats Outlook with its use of labels which allows me to file the same email into multiple folders... For Word, Excel replacements I use OpenOffice at home. Unfortunately for work there is nothing that outdoes Excel - if there is one product that is at the top of its category it is Excel.

Unfortunately you are correct, it has way too many years of development in it to be replicated, I just wish they would stop using it a a bloody database. I bit the bullet and installed office, upgraded from 2003 to student and then to 2007 standard. Don't ask, I have done this on at least 3 computers over the last 5 years :sigh:

I use Thunderbird. I switched after 'Windows Mail' (aka Outlook Express) kept locking up while downloading e-mail from my ISP. Thunderbird seems to work pretty well. The only annoyance is the incredible number of updates that come out. As soon as my anti-virus app updates their TB add-on, TB updates and disables it due to 'incompatibilities'.

I'm having office 2010, but wish I would be allowed to upgrade to 2003. :sigh:

Oh jusification for my stand on not moving from 2007 - it is likely that 2007 will be the last version of office I ever use...

Oh, I do find 2010 better than 2007, but 2003 doesn't have those Elephanting ribbons, so it wins! I still don't find shit in any office program after 2003.

I hated the ribbon at first when I switched from 2003 to 2007, but I got used to it. I recently got a new job where they have 2003, and I can't find anything all over again... grr!
