Has anybody had a look at Go 1.0[^] yet? Whaddaya think? Is it a serious attempt at a useful programming language? If not, then they can always release a version 2 (aimed at female programmers) and call it Go-Go! Sorry, bad joke... :sigh:

If GO 2.0 targets females, What will the presentation pattern be called? OGLE From the brief ogle I had, there's nothing revolutionary there, just goggle trying to make a dollar.

Well, I had hope that they would strip off the presentation layer and simply show the bare bits...

I've been using Go and it is great, there's a few things which can take a bit to get your head around but it's a nice, clean, modern, compiled language. Personally I love it, if I could write code using Go for a living I would.

Cool, think I'll have a closer look at it. One question, though: As far as I understood from some of the links I mentioned, apps build with Go are meant to be released in Googles cloud environment. Does that mean that you can ONLY use it for that, or can you even build "normal" (desktop or web) apps with it?

Ignore those links, Go is the same as C/C++/Java et al in that you use it to write applications to be run on an environment of your choosing. Google's App Engine is just one place that you can deploy your code to, it officially supports just 3 languages, Python, Java and Go. I'm writing a sample app at the moment which generates URL request UID's and then goes off to a website to retrieve XML data and process it. This is running on my Ubuntu Linux HP Mini 210, but I've also compiled and run stuff on my Windows laptop at work.

Do the black discs represent 1's and the white discs 0? Or the other way around? Back to Binary, I say!
