Be proud every time you did your best. (whether or not the original goal was met) Spend time figuring out how make your best better.

I agree totally with the article. Happiness is choice, and we have all these rules about what makes us happy or not. Now, that does NOT mean one should be happy living with an abusive person or working in an abusive situation. Obviously "Not being abused" should be one of those rules of happiness. None-the-less, my happiness is also increased by being able to work from home, having a cat to pet (currently lounging on the desk between my keyboard and monitor), yummy food in the fridge, a friend to talk to (though she currently has laryngitis), being able to stretch my legs when I want without worrying about the boss thinking I'm not working, heck, taking a 15 minute power nap, etc. Marc

Yeah. I almost turned that into "Get on the people you work with." Completely different and may in some cases lead to no longer working with those people... :)

The article is rather simplistic ... happiness isn't something you can choose to feel at any time, particularly if you actually have depression but even for normal people. It is well meaning and gets near a good point (you can influence your thinking and how events make you feel to some degree), though. I moved to a company where the people are fun to work and socialise with. And I, too, keep my work hours to what they're supposed to be and my home life separate.

Happiness is such a simple emotion. There is an entire spectrum of enjoyment and pleasure one can miss out on if one focuses on being happy all the time. I, for example, find satisfaction upon plowing through an 800 page technical book. I wasn't necessarily singing about the joy of reading it the entire time, but I will be satisfied upon completing it. Others find different things to be best in life. For some, it may be to crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.

                      Thou mewling ill-breeding pignut!

Of course the cat is between keyboard and monitor. That's near the mouse after all.

Then how do you manage to get along, work short days, and not get bothered at home? Seems an anomaly in this industry.

Way too complicated. All you have to do is remember that being happy is a choice, and make a choice.
