Google can search based on things specific to your computer (e.g., restaurants near you) or Google account. You can even exclude certain sites from your results in the future. I'm not privy to exactly how customized it gets, but those are a few things I've heard of.

I was searching the phrase "what have changed" on my office computer and my code project article came on top of the list. I was disappointed to find out that Google was just trying to make my happy (it came third on a different computer, it may not even be in the list for another person).

Google sorts its results based on the first letter of the machine name you are on and the date it was manufactured. It then divides the total number of results by 42 and gives you the last 10, first. :java:

It entirely depends on the Auto Completer[^] that you are linked up to. Since each session gets you a different auto-completer you will get different results. Also, the auto-completer may have just slammed some red-bull so his juices may really be flowing and you will get some of those hidden results first.
Computers have been intelligent for a long time now. It just so happens that the program writers are about as effective as a room full of monkeys trying to crank out a copy of Hamlet.

"Big Brother is watching us all." Results are refined according to your past search, language preference and god knows what not... I have a friend from Thailand and time to time she use my computer to do some search and nowadays I notice that when I do my search I get some sites which are in Thai language... and some search results related to her subject interest of economics and finance ....
