Don't know windows phone, but you should go definitely for an iphone, an android, or a windows one as blackberry is not allowing you to: 1. use your phone as a modem (tethering) without an extra charge. 2. use skype or any other software to talk at low rates or for free. 3. listen to streaming radio without setting the APNs and this means extra charge typically. Of course if you love to send e-mails or sms (and you don't plan to use the before mentioned options) then probably a blackberry is the best one (as they have international internet plans that here in Spain are not present in the other phones. Good luck.

One which will capitalise sentences for you? (I'm being slightly rude, but the point is fair - make sure you are comfortable with the text entry system!) Iain.

I am a fan of the Android OS. I've used iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, etc.) as well, and they work well, but they are not as open. The file system is hidden under iOS, for example, and it's more difficult to get started developing. I think this is true from both a financial standpoint (i.e. you have to pay a little bit to actually run your code on the device) and from a knowledge standpoint (most coders will be more familiar with Java than with Objective C).

I have a Galaxy S2. My choice was either to go for an iPhone or a Galaxy S2. The reason I chose the Galaxy S2: In online testing it appeared to come out equal with the iPhone in terms of speed tests and webpage loading. I can stick a 32gb micro sd card into it with all my music - an upgrade in memory for an iPhone means buying the top range iPhone. The screen is larger than an iPhone. I can do some Android development with the free SDK and tools/tutorials available online. The software for Android is mostly free whereas for the iPhone the same software is payware. Android is starting to be a real competitor for iOS - I was told that Android was playing catchup with the software available for iPhone, now it is starting to be ahead of iOS. Android is developed by google - I trust it to integrate with my gmail and calendar better than I trust a third party Apple app to do this. I am extremely happy with the Galaxy S2 after around three weeks of use - I definitely made the correct choice for my needs.

That question is almost as fruitless as "How long is a piece of string?" or "What is the difference between a duck?" or even "How many beans make 5?" in as much as you are likely to get as many different answers as there are pnone models. The only way to decide is to look at the specs, make a short list and then do the legwork to get you hands on each one. Once you have tried them all out make sure that the one you prefer doesn't have too bad a faults record and then go for it.

Don't bother with price, functionality and all that stuff. Just clouds the issue.

Depends on the carrier. Here in the states, the big ones disable it on their phones then create an app to activate it, charge you a monthly fee to use said app. Of course you can get around this if you root your phone, but if they suspect you of tethering without their permission, they have the right to boot you from the network.
