I think you should make it your goal to answer those questions apart from finding a job at MS. Don't you think its more important to be able to answer those questions and know that you are a good developer and are proud of what you have achieved, instead of trying to just work for MS. I think you need to look at what you really want out of life...More generic goals are more achievable and more rewarding. For instance, instead of: "I want to work for Microsoft.", I would make it, "I want a degree in Comp Sci and I want to have fun doing it (which may include extra curricular activities.)"...everything else will work itself out. I kept having this pinpoint ideas of what I wanted out of life..in 6 mo, 2 years, 4 years, etc...and I kept finding that my goals and ideas changed and what I finally ended up with was something completely different..and something I was very happy with. I realized my initial goals were too specific and absurd. So, now I just go with the flow and let things ride. It makes life a lot less stressful and a lot more fun. Thats just my two cents. -dork

Come over here to Ireland and become a student. They are taking 3 or 4 from my colelge this year on placement... do an excellent placement and your more or less guaranteed a job when you finish but it will be in the Localisation and Internationalisation side of things.. .but once your there maybe you could make your way to Redmnod.... You better graduate with honors. I work for Big5, and I know its not Microsoft, however, big companies sometimes are not all they are talked up to be. You'll find a lot of politics are involved working with a big company. I am now trying to work for small software company. My friend interviewed with MS out of college, and he was Comp. Sci/Math major with great grades, he said the interview was really challenging and analytical questions. Good Luck.

That's actually pretty good advise. Another variation on this is to ensure that you get very closely aligned to MS while working for another company. Try to get to know as many MS ppl as you can and get in their face as much as possible. Volunteering to speak at MS events, etc... is also a good idea.
