Subject: Policeman's dilemma?? Question: You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, a dangerous looking man with a huge knife comes around the corner and is running at you while screaming obscenities. In your hand is a Glock .40 and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family. What do you do? __________________________________________________________________ Liberal Answer: Well, that's not enough information to answer the question! Does the man look poor or oppressed? Have I ever done anything to him that is inspiring him to attack? Could we run away? What does my wife think? What about the kids? Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand? What does the law say about this situation? Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me? Does he definitely want to kill me or would he just be content to wound me? If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me? This is all so confusing! I need to debate this with some friends for a few days to try to come to a conclusion. _________________________________________________________ Conservative Answer: BANG! ____________________________________________________________ Texan's Answer: BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! click... (sounds of clip being ejected and fresh clip installed) Wife: "Sweetheart, he looks like he's still moving, what do you kids think?" Son: "Mom's right Dad, I saw it too..." BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! Daughter: "Nice grouping Daddy!" --- ed Regulation is the substitution of error for chance.

Pragmatically, I warn him, I warn him and arm (i would prefer a Beretta 92F if you don't mind ;)) and if no response I shoot his knees.

Insults to roughly half the adult population in the US are not funny; they're boring.

Oh wait, my family might get caught in the blast radius. Okay, make mine a chain gun then. I play enough games to know that one shot is never enough to take down a man. Only a steady stream of bullets would be sufficient to kill a bad guy. Now if the knife wielder is a boss character, I may need two chainguns, one for each hand.

Paul Watson, on BLOGS and privacy - 1/16/2003First, I'm not nuts enough to go in your country. With my behaviour, I would probably be sentenced to 974 years of jail because I smoke in a hotel room, or sentenced to death 'cause they found some particles of weed in my pocket ;) Even if, I would definitively not have a gun. Too sad if I'm killed. Roger Wright wrote: I had one once... really sweet and well-balanced I sometimes wonder if you have a M4 Sherman in a barn somewhere

Paul Watson, on BLOGS and privacy - 1/16/2003For the record... while those types of court rulings get all the press, they are usually shot down in appeals courts (or at least that's true according to a friend who just graduated law school.) But those appeals don't make the big headlines that the original verdicts do. And even if not, that's what umbrella insurance is for. :-D You can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friend's nose.

Looking at this website, I'd have to say that this guy lives in a totally self-delusional world. Here's a little gem: This is said to us, even as this counterfeit president has legalized the Confederate Flag in Mississippi. Could the victims of European Fascism be as frantically loyal to a regime that would fly a Nazi Swastika over their homes? So we cannot, in good conscience, celebrate what seems to us an international crusade to set up a military dictatorship over the world, legitimatized at base, by white supremacy, carried out, no matter the crude lies, as the most terrifying form of Imperialism and its attendant national oppression. All of it designed to drain super profits bluntly from the colored peoples of the world, but as well, from the majority of the peoples in the world. For all the frantic condemnations of Terror by Bush &c, as the single International Super Power, they are the most dangerous terrorists in the world! In the Sisyphus Syndrome of American life, the African America people roll the huge stone of slavery up off them through consistent struggle but also with continuous revolutionary outbursts. Then at another point the villains conspire to push it back down on upon us. Hopefully never as far down as before. We are in the down-the-slope motion now. The Supreme Court is now peopled largely with "ugs" wearing cellophane klan lids. Since the deaths of Malcolm, Martin, and the brothers Kennedy, the U.S. has been in the slowly tightening grip of would be creators of the new international corporate state. What we struggled for they have attacked, undermined, ridiculed, and even grown blackus retrogradus to oppose (from soul of Sowell so to speak) our self-determination and a U.S. peoples' democracy. But, he's oh-so-witty when he writes "Mr. Asscraft" instead of "Mr. Ashcroft"! X| Gee, isn't he cleaver - changing someone's name just slightly to make it a slam. I can't quite remember where I've heard of that technique before... oh, I remember.. it was elementary school. http://www.amiribaraka.com/[^] ------------------------------------------ "Isn't it funny how people say they'll never grow up to be their parents, then one day they look in the mirror and they're moving aircraft carriers into the Gulf region?" - The Onion

Again, you can screw up a C/C++ program just as easily as a VB program. OK, maybe not as easily, but it's certainly doable. - Jamie Nordmeyer - 15-Nov-2002There are really several political positions in the USA: 1) Conservatives (+/- 30%) - typically the Republicans. 2) Liberals (+/- 30%) - typically the Democrats. 3) Greens (+/- 5%) - more liberal than liberals. Willing to vote Green at the expense of the Democratic Party. 4) Libertarians (+/- 5%)- more conservative than conservaties, believe in strict adherence in the Constituition, minimalist government. Typically have to vote Republician as the closest match in philosophy. Will many times vote Libertarian at the expense of the Republican Party. 5) Reform Party (+/- ?) at one time this was Ross Perot's party, an answer to everything he found wrong. Pretty much conservative, but as a result of Perot's run (got 20%) we got Clinton the first time around. Party is down to about zip at this point in time. I've probably missed some % points, but this is essentially it. Up to election day the rest of the voters are "undecided". Sometimes that means they are honestly struggling with a decision. Sometimes it means they haven't given it any thought. Sometimes it means they are incapabe of thought. Then there are the moderates of both the Republicans and the Democrats. (by definition, there can't be a moderate Green or libertarian) Never have figured out what a moderate is, except for being berift of principled positions. Mike
