Radio 4 this Morning "You've got to feel sorry for Sarkozy, he is the shortest serving predisdent under 5th Repulic [pause][pause] at only n years" How do the French get through republics so quickly? We're only on our 2nd monarchy, and that was a continuation of the 1st.

Every time they lose a war they create a new republic.

We are indeed a bit ahead: monarchy was abolished quite a century ago. But we love oldskool.

We're not allowed to have labour day as the Conservative party (if my friends on FaceBook are a representative sample) doesn't like being reminded of the tawdry business of actually making money through actual work. Even the US keeps "Labor Day". Depsite May Day being a traditional holiday, we have spring bank holiday and hold it a week later instead, to prove it is different. Though the French elections are cause for celebration, the markets will overreact and bring business and money our way. Or they'll totally overreact and Europe will sink & we'll all be on a famous river missing a vital bit'o'rowing equiment. I hope it's the former.:~

They thought about calling it 'Sordidis Spumae' day, but it proved unpopular.

A tad rude, but quite accurate :) And it could be that the 6th is on the way -- not that we intend to lose anything in the next years, but the current system is completely old-fashined.

I know it's a holiday in the UK, but where is the rest of the witty repartee? How am I supposed to drink coffee all morning without a load of silly messages, I might have to check twatter instead... [just got an e-mail from OG] The sheep have chewed through a wire and there is NO CP IN WALES!
