I forget, who is the CPian known for his epic boycott list? A question to him and to the rest of you. When your list becomes so large that you are essentially boycotting everyone, how do you cope? For example, I want to boycott pretty much every popular financial institution in the US (Visa, MasterCard, PayPal, Bank of America), but the lack of workable alternatives makes that difficult. How do you handle situations like that?

go to walmart and get a prepaid walmart card. costs 6 bucks. you can load up to 1500 bucks at a time on it. Costs $3 to load it each time, no monthly fees, no usage fees. has a visa logo and can be used at the register, online, etc..

Common sense is not a gift it's a curse. Those of us who have it have to deal with those that don't.... Be careful which toes you step on today, they might be connected to the foot that kicks your butt tomorrow. You can't scare me, I have children.

I imagine VISA gets some sort of kickback. And what if I want to boycott Walmart (I've heard they have some screwed up labor practices, but it's not something I've looked into)?

I'm sure there are plenty of other prepaid options out there but check carefully, a lot of them have monthly fees, usage fees, etc. And if it does not have some sort of logo such as visa, mastercard, it will be less acceptable in the wide sense of it and end up being more trouble than its worth. Sometimes you just have to decide which parts of the evil you want to deal with and not deal with the rest. I personally would think the prepaid card would contribute less to the a**holes than a full bank/credit card would. that's just my opinion though.

They wouldn't care if one person boycotted them, but they'd care if a bunch of people did. And right now I'm not boycotting them... I said I want to, and not to make my life easier.

My coworker gave me 1 Chinese yuan that I could let you hold onto for me, if you pay for the stamp (which would cost more than a yuan).

I suspect the solution is to minimize my use of their services. Perhaps get a bank account elsewhere and use cash whenever possible. And maybe support any legislation that moves us towards breaking down the control banks and credit card companies have over us.

The size of the list isn't your primary concern (as long as there is ample memory). The main issue is what happens when you end up on your own list yourself? :)

With such a logic, we would be slaves of these companies. Someone has to start, maybe the movement will grow. What I mean is that fighting for an ideology means sacrifices. For sure, doing nothing is more comfortable.

                                        Thou mewling ill-breeding pignut!

I really want to say that it should be CG. His list of grievances and poor service from companies is almost legendary.

He's even boycotting CP these days! Well, the lounge at least... Iain.
