Why is it that if someone calls you on your mobile and you don't/can't answer and they don't leave a message, it is almost expected for you to call them back to see what they wanted anyway? Back in the day, you could call someone on the phone and if they couldn't answer, they had no idea that you had called or what you wanted. If you wanted a call back, you would leave a message. I can't tell you how many times I've been asked "Didn't you see I called?", to which I reply "Yeah".

Brad If you think you can, you will. If you think you can't, you won't. Either way, you're right.

Because people buy crappy phone plans with limited outgoing calls and unlimited ingoing calls.

There's a reason they have an on/off switch, if I don't want to be bothered I turn it off and if it's all that important call me back!

If it's important, they'll send a text. Phone calls aren't for important things.

Odd. I have never felt that people expect me to call back if they do not leave a message. I assume exactly as you are saying, in that if they want me to call back they will leave a message stating so. If they do not leave a message I will make an assumption depending on the person. Friend or Family - Just wanted to chat Co-Worker - Needed something will try someone else Unknown/Blocked - Tele- marketing

Those are the people who think you need them more than they need you:

                    • They have large sums of cash to give away
                    • They have found the fountain of youth and want to share with you the good news
                    • They can make some of your body parts as big/small as you wish
                    • They are inviting you for a free beer

Anyway, it would be foolish to not call them back.

It isn't being bothered that gets me, it's the fact that they called and expect me to call back without any indication I should. Leave a message or text that you need to talk to me. Worse yet is when I call someone for something stupid and they don't answer, then they call back an hour later asking what I wanted. By that time the point is lost.

Depends who it is. For the wife then I will call back when I can, if it is urgent she will keep calling or text. For my parents I will probably call back at some point. For anyone else, bollocks to them. Should have left a message.

The first thing I do when I get a new phone is to turn the bloody voice messaging off. How is it that we've come this far yet voice messages aren't even recorded on our own phones by default (I'll assume there are apps out there) If somebody I know calls & I'm not busy, I answer. If somebody calls but there isn't an entry in my Phone Book, I ignore it If somebody writes me a message I respond immediately Never had a telemarketer yet. :D My phone is there for MY convenience - if that doesn't suit you, you don't suit me...

Is it because the majority of voice message are left when it has not been possible for the caller to get connected to your phone?

Nope. Over 95% of calls I don't answer are while I'm looking at it wondering who it could be. The phone is off for about 2 or 3 hours a month. [Edit: Above question just re-read. Hmm, silly response this is when viewed from that perspective. 'you(me)' is rather different than 'you(everybody)' Nevermind, I'm sure to make somebody feel smug with my lack of wit

Call them back at 04:30am. Say "you didn't leave a message so I assumed it was urgent" Problem doesn't repeat

You just need to retrain the people who call you. I never ring back just because someone called me.

The point is that people today think the world revolves around them, and if they don't get a callback they become incredulous.

If it's not broken, fix it until it is
