just do it. I have been known to hum a tune or two while working on code. One of the best guys I'v ever worked with looked over and said, "Dude, nothing personal but the hummming is killing my concentration." I had no problem with shutting up - mutual respect.

No friggin' way - he's one of THOSE - if you know what I mean? He would just think I was coming on to him. :~ [EDIT] Before anybody tells me off, NO - it's no problem for me really - I was just trying to phrase it in a diplomatic way... [/EDIT]

All of the above. I can hear the music (vaguely), he has headphones on, and yes, he is singing quite loudly...

Just because a thing is new don’t mean that it’s better - Will Rogers, September 4, 1932You might suggest that he'd really enjoy the acoustic enhancement to his voice supplied by a plastic bag over his head. Just sayin' . . .

Just because a thing is new don’t mean that it’s better - Will Rogers, September 4, 1932Turn it round then. I can pretty much guarantee that it's not just you that he's annoying, and that others are just as sick. You're all just playing politeness chicken, waiting to see who'll crack first. All you need to do is politely ask him to turn his music down, and ask him if he'd mind not singing as you're finding it difficult to concentrate with the distractions. It's not rude to do this (he could be totally unaware that he's doing this), and if he gets all prissy about it, there are ways of getting revenge. A good way of starting would be to tape him singing on your phone and then playing it back to him.

Just because a thing is new don’t mean that it’s better - Will Rogers, September 4, 1932Warn him if he does not stops, you will play Justin Beiber's songs at full volume the whole day. There are pros and cons by doing this: Pro: You too will be popular among teenage girls. Con: Bleeding ears, temporary or permanent rage leading to violent actions on singing co-workers. Hey! that's a win-win for you. :)

Just because a thing is new don’t mean that it’s better - Will Rogers, September 4, 1932Ask him if he enjoys singing when he does it again. The normal reply will be 'yes'. And then ask: "Why don't you learn it, then?" If that does nor help, then join him. Just sing along, loud and bad. Then it will not take him long to complain and he's the jerk :)
