Hi, I need to set up virtual machine on my win7 pc. I thought of using VirtualBox by oracle. I had below questions, for which I didn't find convincing answers on the web.. So posting here. 1) Once any VM say virtualbox is installed, will it permanently take some specified free space on hard disk to load other OS. 2) What happens to the applications that I install on OS loaded inside VM. Where will it get installed, once I unload the OS and again load it in VM, will those apps be available again. 3) What happens if I uninstall VM but I don't uninstall all the softwares which I installed inside VM.. Is this a memory leak. Sorry for many questions, as I'm novice. And thanks in advance. ~Vijay.

It's State of Origin night, the Lounge has been handed over to me, all threads are to be created by me or anyone else who is willing to keep up with me beer for beer tonight.

Yes - well, as long as you don't delete them. VMs load things called images, and these take space. You typically allocate a certain amount of space for a single image, and then you load into that image.

Yes - they are installed into the image, so they are available when you restart the VM. This is part of the reason you need to allocate disk space.

If you uninstall the VM, the images can't be loaded into memory so there's no leak. If you uninstall the VM, then don't forget to delete any images you have created as they take up disk space.

Hi Pete O'Hanlon, Thanks for your descriptive reply. That was very helpful. Yes, taking your explanation as base, I just had some hands on with "Virtual Box" and created images ( *.VDI files ) . Also there were options to allocate some static space or let the VM choose space dynamically for images. Thanks again. ~Vijay.
