Oh snap - more on interview
-
I had a similar situation once. I former college programming teacher of mine was working at a place I got an interview at. I wanted to surprise him, but the bastard saw my resume on his boss's desk. And I didn't end up getting the job.

Hopefully it is a good one!

One piece of advice on this, don't ask him to put in a good word until you're sure it's a job you'd take. Miss Wiz just took a contract that a friend of ours put in a good word for her, so she felt almost obligated to take the offer. She's probably going to leave after 3 or 4 weeks.

I suppose that is sound advice. I was so excited about getting my first job here I didn't pay enough attention to anything else. All I cared about was that I was getting a job.

Yeah, I was unemployed for a few months by the time I got my offer from my current employer. I'm just glad that it turned out to be a great place so far. Miss Wiz in the otherhand is working at a Draconian office. No internet (yes really), no personal laptops or wifi, and phone service doesn't really get in the building either. This is for a website division of a Fortune 50 company.

Everything is developed, then tested internally by QA, then it is deployed to prod (which only a few QA see) at night.
Sounds Dickensian. You'd have thought employers would have figured out that jack-boot management really doesn't work.
"If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." Red Adair. nils illegitimus carborundum me, me, me

The place is fucked. They just recently started doing all digital ads and their website in house. Their corporate headquarters is in a North Burb, and apparently really stuffy. She works at the "Creative Office" downtown, where the dress code is different, but it's the same deal. Oh, and everyone in their "Creative Office" is contract with no benefits. It's one of those, "Oh look, we are cool to work for, we have a trendy office downtown- and you can wear jeans!" and then it looks a Vogon's paradise if you look deeper than that. I think the company as a hole is headed to the shit-ter.

College friends of mine recruited me for my 2nd, 3rd and 4th employers - and at one, he went to his boss and told him to up their offer when I told my friend what their initial offer was - great friend!

Just found out a good friend of mine from college works at this place. Didn't hit me until I was researching more about them today over lunch. I sent him an email, I think he'll put in a word for me :D
