Adelphia Cable Modem & SQL Server
-
Does anybody around here use Adelphia for their cable modem access? I am not sure how much coverage they have in the states. I am in southwest Virginia. If you do have Adelphia, have you tried accessing a SQL Server over port 1433 using something like Enterprise Manager? I've been accessing my host's SQL Server over my cable modem for sometime but I have been unable to today. I know that the worm outbreak caused a lot of problems. I've tried connecting to two SQL Servers and I've been unable to. Just wondering if Adelphia may of started blocking the SQL Server ports. Any ideas? Jonathan

I just tested it and did not have any issues. I am on Adelphia in Buffalo NY. If you are behind a firewall (maybe linksys?) you might want to try rebooting it. I have had issues in the past where it has needed to be rebooted. There is always the possability that they are blocking it in your area and not mine though. Can you ping the SQL server? Run a tracrt to it?

Also the sites (there are two sql servers in two different places that I cannot connect to) are working showing their data correctly. Is there software to watch the outgoing ports to see if they are dropping it?

If the server has it enabled, you can try to telnet there and see if you get a response.

Can't you remap the port to something else? If you're the only one using it, then remapping might be a worthwhile idea.
