Obscure Cables

I have a room full of old computers and unused cables and it is time for a clear out ... but you never know what will come in handy in the future! First thing I pick up with my new found zeal is a cable with an network connection at one end (RJ45) and a USB (Type A) connector at the other. It does not look like it has been used. What could it have come with? Could it be any use in the future?

Yes, for strangulation, or recycle the copper when silver declines (often thought about stripping down my cables for metal. okay, that came out wrong :)).

I've seen this type used for connections between a UPS and a port on the computer. Both ends are serial connections (RJ-45 was popular for RS232 for a while), and since modern PCs don't have serial ports, they just modified one end to USB, another serial technology.

Actually I did it the other way, remembered it first and looked for one on the internet to make sure :)

It's USB to male RJ45 so not quite the same.
