Few days back, in a thread about monarchy, some guys argued about the boundaries of continent Europe [^]. And I was thinking, why on Earth (or, why on Universe) Europe should be a continent. The landmass containing so called Europe and so called Asia are in a single plate (Eurasian plate[^]), and if not for the size, Indian and Arabian subcontinents would have easily qualified for continents because the are on different plates. Why should we teach religion or politics in Geology, when they are totally different subjects? EDIT: Link fixed.

    Peace, ye fat guts!

Here is a map of the world from 43 A.D[^]. Does it make sense now?

I'm guessing it has to do with the ethnic background and history. I.e Europe is white.

I blame the French. I just know they had something to do with it.

Except the naming of the continents was done by Whites, so they wanted a continent all to themselves.

Link is broken. And I don't really know the answer to that, but I have a theory. These "continents" were made up before we really knew about plate tectonics, and then they weren't changed to reflect the new knowledge.

I submit the following historical and cultural imperatives:

                    • Because the Europeans have so little else to be proud of.
                    • Because no other continent would have them.

Because calling it incontinent, would be too predictive.
