SIM CITY 4
-
I happened to have a gift certificate from Christmas for Best Buy, and Sim City 4[^] was on the top of my list. :-D Needless to say, I am a Sim City fan from way back... Anyway, it seems to be a resource hog! X| I mean, I don't have a bleeding-edge machine, but I do have a P4-1.7GHz w/ 256MB and a 32MB GeForce 2... That's ok, i'm still hooked... I'm gonna get a few hours in before people start coming over for the game ;P - Nitron

It's my first simcity and it's great! Nitron wrote: Anyway, it seems to be a resource hog! I mean, I don't have a bleeding-edge machine, but I do have a P4-1.7GHz w/ 256MB and a 32MB GeForce 2... I got XP1800+, 512MB, Geforce 4 and it still crawls sometimes.

Yeah, I've been playing the Sim games since the start and only Sim Tower was a disappointment, and then only in terms of longevity. Sim City rocks. Christian No offense, but I don't really want to encourage the creation of another VB developer. - Larry Antram 22 Oct 2002

SC4 rules... if you like that sort of game then buy it immediately. Haven't had any problems with it (well, I did have to update all my drivers) on an AMD 1800 XP, 768Mb RAM and an ATI 7200 (64Mb). Not strictly true... I have had trouble keeping my bank balance in the black but other than that, nothing. Paul Pleasently caving in, I come undone - Queens of the Stone Age, No One Knows

Put it in the Apps directory of SC4 and run it. Use it to launch game, and press "1". Then when you build stuff, you'll get tons of $$ ;P (certified virus-free by my Norton scan BTW) Just for fun of course  Well, a little boost never hurt... :-D - Nitron

It's a very easy game to master. Until you pick the large square to build your city on. Cities with a population > 50,000 is a mess. I HATE SIM PEOPLE! If I give them features they don't care, if I lower the taxes they don't care, if I build cool stuff for them they don't care. I'm getting a feeling why policiticans aren't doing their job anymore. It must be hopeless! -- Eventhough the forrest is full of trees, there's still no tree between the trees.

Nitron wrote: 256MB I believe that's your problem. I tried it on a similarly "under-equipped" machine and it swapped like crazy, to the point I just uninstalled and mumbled "fsck'em". Amazing how software companies generates bloat and seem to take no pride, and I mean absolutely no pride, in the art of software development anymore.

I do have a bleeding edge machine, and it's a huge resource hog. Once you get a city of any size, performance goes into the dumper, even with all the eye candy & music turned off. It went back to the store the next day - I was totally disapointed. IMHO, SimCity peaked at SimCity 2000. Now they're just trading on the name.

Well the original sim city fitted on two floppy disks as I remember. And didn't seem to be significantly different either,
