A more realistic tech-movie...

Tron. I just saw Tron Legacy and the movie was pretty realistic compared to other big time computer hacker movies... I mean, if we leave out the details it's basically about a guy who starts writing some code that looks really good and amazing. After a while the code grows and becomes more and more unmanagable, some code even starts to lead it's own life! It's giving him quite some headaches and sleepless nights. In the end the best thing he can do is de-install the entire thing. I think we've all been down that road! Despite the fact that I could really relate to the movie it wasn't the best movie I've ever seen. Not very bad either though. It was okay.

Right on! First thing I did when I got a Vista computer was re-install it with Windows XP :)

My anger with Vista added to my liking of Ubuntu; and it became a permanent OS on my machine.

Bill Gates? He basically retired quite a while ago, don't you read the news? As for the quality of Microsoft code, Apple's Xcode has just crashed on me for like the 30th time today, 200th for this week. And the guys behind me are having an awful time porting the game to Android. Sorry, but I'd surely like for Windows and its off-shoots to stay around for as long as possible.

Oh yeah, i love these image enhancement programs, specially when they can get a pristine image of the license plate in a car that is moving at 100 Km/h away from the camera in a dark moonless nigth. Did i mention that these were cameras with 320x240 pixels of resolution?

I agree completely with Orlin's last remark. After discovering how insanely hard it is to make reliable audio capture on Android phones (on each of our 5 test phones, the same code behaves differently) I respect more how Microsoft has managed to make Windows run reliably on such diverse hardware, not to mention how easy it is to find detailed technical information for its products all around the internet. :cool:

That's why the TI-99/4 made those noises, otherwise the buying public would not think it was a real computer. :omg: On a side note about the TI-99/4, I heard the slow display rate was because an exec thought that people couldn't read faster than 1200 baud. :doh:

}The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Some of the computer responses are a bit faster than expected in real life. But, there's real SQL in there if one looks at the computer screens closely. Some of the code is off a little bit (seems to be a merge of MySql, SQL Server and Oracle), but at least it's a lot closer than "This is UNIX. I know this!"

What is all this "Vista is evil" brouhaha? I was a user of XP. Installed Vista - no problem (except for slow single file copies). Vista SP1 better. Win7 better still. Did people just believe the Apple advertising BS? Were people concerned by MS decision to use all available memory at any time to improve performance so that it seemed (to untutored users) that it was a resource hog? Somebody tell me. What WAS the problem?
