wxWindows

Has anybody else here used wxWindows? It seems like a pretty cool development environment. So far, I've been able to make a GUI that will compile and run under both Windows XP and Unix. Just curious... Brad Jennings "if the golden arches shut shop, where else are the VB people going to get work." - Colin Davies

I'm using wxWindows for about 2 years now. I choosed wxWindows for several reasons:* open-source: you can solve bugs and become part of the wxWindows community. wxWindows is heavily developed.
- MFC-alike: when you know MFC, using wxWindows is easy.
- It has a lot more than just GUI-classes: ftp, file handling, threads, html, ... and all of them are platform indepedent.
- You can use it with any compiler.
- It's free for personal and commercial use.
- Whenever possible wxWindows uses the platform SDK, which means that wxWindows applications have the look and feel of the platform.
- Many ports are written: wxPython, wxBasic, wxPerl, wxJS (javascript). You can use the wxWindows classes in your favorite script-language.

Hello Frank, Sometimes it pays to add shameless plugins -- wxJS (javascript) :) Best regards, Paul. Jesus Christ is LOVE! Please tell somebody.

Welcome, and thanks for the good work. With C# (through Mono) now going to the Linux, I think I have to consider wxCSharp ;P Best regards, Paul. Jesus Christ is LOVE! Please tell somebody.

Been using wxWindows for over a year now in one project.. and will probably expand to use it in some more stuff. It's pretty solid, and it's very rare that I've really needed something that wxWindows didn't have. And in one case it was easy enough to code it in anyway (needed some encodings for Japanese fonts.) It also comes with help, not sure if there is (or ever will be) a way to integrate the help into Visual, but still, at least they have documentation. :-D You can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friend's nose.
