Where art and engineering meet...

I don't normally bother with car shows - you get 30 or 40 badly restored or modded cars packed into a space too small to let you really appreciate them. However, this morning my son dragged ne along to acar show in Burbank and I took a couple of pictures...[^]. Yes, there were some bad cars here (evideence attached) but also som eutterly beautiful ones as well. However, I leave that to you to judge. Enjpy.

Where's the art thou? :) Anyway, I don't see why art cannot be practical... I like the way that italian painter Elio Carletti defined beauty as a summation of the parts where nothing is needed to be altered, added, or taken away. Those cars are nothing like that, just bare excess. But some modern cars do exhibit those qualities, like this upcoming BMW[^]

Clever. As someone who once, many lifetimes ago, sort of did this stuff for a living I can appreciate the incredible attention to detail, planning and artistry that goes into and, sometimes, transcends the sheer mechanical beauty of some of these machines. I'm sorry if you can't see it: let's put that down to my poor photography. There are, of course, some wonderful modern machines but they can't get close to some of the old ones. There were machines there over a 100 years old and still in working condition.

I don't: it's too final as if you can never add that one last detail to either near perfection or cause ruin. The novel, as example, is never really complete, just stalled for want of a better ending.

I love the black Camaro. Always wanted a z28.

Common sense is not a gift it's a curse. Those of us who have it have to deal with those that don't.... Be careful which toes you step on today, they might be connected to the foot that kicks your butt tomorrow. You can't scare me, I have children.

I like image 3034, the one where the car's body is mostly wooden. It's way over-dressed compared to what we see here in the UK but it kind of reminds me of the Morris Minor Traveller estate. I'm sure the owners of all those cars must have spent megabucks doing some of them up. Nice photos. The last car show of any merit I ever saw was the annual Angela's Cars In The Park day in Joburg. The Land Rover Owner's Club used to take it's beaten and bruised bush-bashers there. At the time, I had a Series II shorty with a V6 engine. Every panel was full of scratches and dents. At the other extreme there were some stunning cars, beautifully restored to original condition. Oh, to have that kind of money and dedication.
