Do any of you really use your phone apps?

Not entirely a bad thing.

I don't, except the standard ones. However, today I used the bar scanner and was able to find something for less, somewhere else. -- cool. I know this technology has been around for a while but I'm simple minded and slow. Go easy with me. :)

It's pretty therapeutic and really does seem to help with using the thing, I highly recommend it. You end up looking at things and really deciding what you really need and what you got because it was free.

I would not send texts using Siri until you have a chance to review them first :-O I downloaded some Bible apps that make reading and searching much easier(YouVersion is one of the best) and I use those everyday.

I've been able to use it a few times to record a program that I forgot to set at home. Very cool. Also use the Twitter and Facebook apps regularly, plus a few apps that help me manage the phone itself. Weather Channel's app is pretty handy too.

Tasker to automate my settings and do things based on where I am or events that happen on my phone (e.g. when car docked, turn on Bluetooth and start up Waze). For me this is THE killer app that will probably forever keep me off of iPhones. Waze to find my way around traffic during my commute. Shortyz crossword puzzles. Bike Computer to track my bike rides. C25K and 100 Pushups to help me get in shape. SleepBot to keep track of my sleeping patterns. Beautiful Widgets/Widget Locker to show me the weather forecast on my lock screen. Evernote for note taking and to keep track of things I sometimes have to look up when I'm at the store like the size of my furnace's air filter, model number for the water filter in the fridge, ink cartridge numbers, etc. Google Voice to get transcripts of my voicemail emailed to me and to avoid having to carry a texting plan. DoubleTwist to play and wirelessly load and sync my music on the phone.

I use the bar-code/QR code scan when shopping, Calendar - run my life with it, E-mail (gmail), Evernote - write down stray thoughts before they escape. Music (of course), camera, video, YouTube app, kids apps (for my 3-year-old), and Klondike. I have played (for a while) Mediaeval Castle Defender, some drag-racing game and others that I forget. I am not much of a game player on the phone (or anywhere else for that matter). Mind you, I use to use a Palm pilot (m100, then handspring visor, then Treo, then Centro), so the concept of a smart handheld device is deeply embedded for me.

I have a basic phone with a web browser but no apps, so not really a smart phone. I might do it, make the leap into smart phone-dom. In the next few weeks, depending on my personal expenses, I will go phone shopping, and probably hardly ever use an app except to look up addresses/store hours/menus.
Which bar code scanner did you use/recomend? I've used Amazon's PriceCheck and it is nice. I have BarCode Scanned and RedLaser installed but have not used them yet. The Weather channels app/widget works, but I’m wondering if there is a better one. I've been enjoying “HeyTell”, and “Ravid” for communications. “GasBuddy” is helpful for finding cheap gas, especial in unfamiliar teritory. “Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch app makes it easy to choose seafood that's good for you, and good for the oceans.” I'm a fan of Dealnews.com and their app does a nice job of allowing me to monitor postings. My Razer Maxx also came with "Smart Actions" that allows me to create rules based on conditions such as my location. I was looking for a good one for ShackNews but they only have unofficial ones.

I've had Pocket PC type devices since they first came out with the Palm Pilot. I'm a Windows developer but I absolutely use the hell out of my iPhone. It's actually a pocket computer before it's a phone! -Max :D

I also use Gmail app to check my mails. I also like Taskos, an app where you put tasks and when you finish a task, you can delete it by selecting it and then shaking the phone.

I like this one. Thinking about putting it on my new phone. I have a new Samsung Stratosphere 4G ($99 for the phone with $50 mail in rebate and company discount). Not bad.

So I went with an iPhone and discovered just how useful it can be. Aside from checking weather, getting videos (TED, etc.),getting the location of available goods and services and some time wasting games while waiting for my tires to be changed, I have an app that helped me to lose 30 pounds (weight, not money.) Well worth the expense. And the iPad? Even better, even with wifi-only. I can keep my technical documents on it for easy totage. My roommate uses his for his gaming references.
I'm not a programmer but I play one at the office

But my phone still gets used for lots of things: - encrypted storage on the phone is the only place where I store certain confidential info - even if stolen, the chances for decryption in a time short enough to make the info useful are zero, and I can erase it remotely - a few games, occasionally - Google maps - only once in a while, but when I do need the maps the phone proves invaluable - web browsing - again, only from time to time, but being able to browse the web wherever you happen to be is very useful - shopping lists, cooking recipes, all sorts of notes - read email, respond to urgent mail - Google calendar, appointment alerts - taking photos (the phone has a quite good camera), publishing them on the web - not that I do many photos, but the fact that I only make few photos makes it even more convenient not to have to set up a dedicated system (y'know, cards, camera, disk interfacing with camera etc.) - music player - I hate it to carry several devices around, and the phone's long lasting battery, even when used with GPS or playing music or video for hours, surely helps - remote control for VLC, ar.drone, and whatever I'll get to need to use with it Of course many of these are prepackaged apps, but this makes sense: the phone manufacturer puts what's most likely to be used on the phone. But, as you can see, I have quite many uses for my phone, many of which do not fit a different type of device. I once even wrote a whole ten pages document on my phone, before I got a tablet. It wasn't very convenient, but I needed to do it right then, had no access to any other hardware, and the phone got the job done.
