There was one thing I wanted to do today, just swap the front brake disks and pads on the car. Simple job, should take about an hour if I take it nice an easy. Oh no. It's never that easy... The wheel is held on by 5 bolts. Shuffle the car around enough to get the trolley jack under the jacking point, jack up, drink coffee, take off wheel. Brake caliper held by two 18mm bolts. I have 17mm hex, and 19mm hex. I don't have 18mm hex. Ok, bi-hex then. I can find 17mm bi-hex sockets. I can find 19mm bi-hex sockets. I can swear. And drink coffee. Before I find where Michelle has put the stupid socket I need, I'll just check I have got the right Torx male, since the disk is retained by one T30 screw and the wheel bolts. Yes, no problem, got one. Or rather I had one, until it snapped off flush in the screw... Eventually get the broken bit out, put everything back together, because I'm going to need a new T30 before I go any further. And now to Fleabay - £7 for a T30, £4.50 for a 18mm impact hex socket. Sorted. So, I'll mow the damn lawn before it rains tomorrow. Not my favourite job, but it's got to be done...half way through I find some animal has been using the lawn as a toilet... Ok, so what else can go wrong? :laugh:

You know you can get any bolt or nut off with a center punch/cold chisel and a hammer? You tap the bolt round to undo it. The impact from the hammer actually makes it go lose and it then undoes easily. And if your torx drive snapped it must have been a pretty crappy one. :) Ad you should also DTI the disks after putting them on to make sure they are running even (one of those clock things with a needle). I have had new disks that are out of true, and also crud/rust build up can make a disc not sit straight.

You should not, under any circumstances, change the brake disks unless you know what you are doing. They have to be checked for run-out otherwise the pads will wear far more quickly and at an unevern rate if the disks are put back even slightly out of true. Further, it sounds liek you ar esupportng the car on a jack. That is stupid beyond belief. Get a stand under the axle asap before you go anywhere near it. Some jobs should not by done by amateurs, ever. Stop being so bloody tight and take it in to a proper garage. :mad::mad::mad:
