4G tablets--where to buy?
-
My frau and I have been looking to change away from the abusive relationship we have with ATT for our data needs and get a pair of 4G tablets and dumbphones and use pre-paid SIM cards. Sounds simple and clean, right? we don't really care about data speeds, we just want predictable costs for voice and data. Trouble is, there are very few tablets available with 4G. Very few; we can get them from T-Mobile or ATT at horrendous cost, but nowhere else. And the selection is iPad or old Samsung, or nothing. I am shocked that here in the heart of the innovation capital of the geek world that there don't seem to be any retail outlets for 4G-enabled tablets. Where do geeks get the good tech? Where should I be looking?

If you don't care about speed, why get a 4G tablet? How about getting a Wi-Fi tablet and then a mobile hotspot device [^]

The idea is to use the same SIM card for both tablet and phone.

So their idea makes even more sense, as you only need the phone with the sim in it!! Set it as a wireless hotspot and connect via your wifi tab... Two birds, one stone!!

I had the same idea, but then found out that blackberry is still in the stone ages as the torch can not be set as a wireless hotspot. My next phone will not be a blackberry. Will probably just downgrade my current contract to a pay as you go, add the blackberry service, and get a different contract.

4G tablets haven't been approved by the FDA. You can only get 4G as a liquid.
