      Whatever kids got these days to call a discrete date... If it is Karate, so be it, who cares, I wouldn't ask too many questions ;)

        My wife broke her father's finger in Karate practice when she was younger. Don't know if she had braces at the time.

                    No worries! In 8 years of karate, I never saw anyone lose a tooth. Ribs, knees, fingers, elbows, yes, but no teeth. Where kids are involved, the classes don't involve much contact, and sparring nights the uniform should include protective gear, including a mouth guard. Incidental risk is no worse than found on a normal playground. Except that there are no guns allowed in the dojo...

                          Had braces when I was a kid, from personal experience I would say it's a good idea to get rid of those before somebody starts punching at your face. Separating braces and lips after a punch was anything but funny ...
